Meet Tara Laule,

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Laule.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
After several years in a corporate job, I decided to pursue a life that would fulfill my creative talents. I would sit at my desk in a small cubicle reading blog after blog about how people would sell everything and travel the world or leave everything they knew to be comfortable and take the chance to do something they loved. I envied these people and their stories of inspiration. I kept thinking to myself “I know I can do this” and “This couldn’t be impossible”. After almost a year of planning “the rat race escape”, I put my 2 weeks’ notice in and never looked back.

I started my photography business by giving away free photo shoots to my friends, and then they would tell their friends. I enrolled in a digital photography certification course at Emory’s Continuing Education campus and completed it in 11 months. I was eager and determined to dive in and start capturing moments that people would love and continue to hire me for future occasions. It’s been an incredible journey so far. I am learning something new every day and at every photoshoot. I don’t know where it will take me, but I can say that I am incredibly grateful and blessed to be able to pursue my dreams and live a life I’ve always dreamed of.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a digital photographer based in Atlanta, GA. I take photos of weddings, events, family portraits, and newborns. I take a creative aspect to my photos and mix candid and posed shots to create memories people will want to look back on. I don’t aim for “perfection” at every shoot, I want people to see that life has flaws and that they can be so beautiful. I aim to get the perspective at a wedding that only the bride or groom will see. I may focus on the reaction of a parent at the child’s birthday party or have the kids do something natural during a family portrait session like play a game of tag. By taking this approach, I hope people will look back on these photos and remember what that moment felt like.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Defining success is easy. For me it’s a few things. First is the joy and happiness my photos bring to the viewer. Second, are the number of referrals I get from those happy clients, and third, is the joy it brings me. I think these three are key to success as an artist. Making money off of my talents is just a huge plus.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Currently, my work can be seen on my website and my online gallery as well as social media pages Instagram and Facebook. The online gallery offers the clients the ability to purchase prints or keepsakes from a professional photo lab. People can support my work by purchasing from my online gallery, sharing my content on social media outlets, or by referring me to friends and family.
