Today we’d like to introduce you to Somers Wilson.

Hi Somers, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Beatz and Culture Magazine began with a simple but powerful vision: to create a platform where the voices, stories, and creativity of Atlanta’s communities could be seen, heard, and respected.

The idea came from recognizing that too many talented artists, entrepreneurs, photographers, designers, community leaders, and creatives were doing incredible work but weren’t receiving the recognition they deserved. While much of the media focused on celebrities and viral moments, there was an entire culture of hardworking people building businesses, creating art, and making a difference in their communities.

Rather than waiting for someone else to tell those stories, Beatz and Culture Magazine was created to tell them.

What started as a passion project quickly evolved into something much bigger. The magazine expanded beyond music to embrace fashion, business, entrepreneurship, photography, visual arts, community initiatives, and cultural storytelling. Its mission became clear: to bridge creativity and community while giving emerging and established voices a professional platform to share their journeys.

Today, Beatz and Culture Magazine stands as an independent Atlanta-based publication produced by Beatz and Culture Media Group. It is guided by seven core values:

These values shape every interview, feature story, photo essay, and community partnership the magazine undertakes.

More than a magazine, Beatz and Culture has become a movement dedicated to documenting culture, celebrating achievement, and creating opportunities for people whose stories deserve to be preserved. It exists to amplify voices, elevate brands, connect communities, and inspire the next generation of creators.

As the magazine continues to grow, hopefully its purpose will always remain the same: Rooted in Atlanta. Driven by Culture. United by Purpose.and at its core is still one belief: If it’s making a positive impact on the culture and the community, it’s a story worth telling.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
After experiencing a traumatic brain injury, I had to rebuild my life while holding on to my purpose. I refused to let my circumstances define me Instead, I created Beatz and Culture Magazine as a platform to amplify voices, celebrate creativity, and serve the community.

As an independent publisher, I’ve worn many hats founder, editor, photographer, creative director, and marketer while overcoming financial challenges, building credibility, and growing the brand one step at a time.. Every issue represents hard work, resilience, and a commitment to telling stories that matter.

My journey has taught me that obstacles don’t have to stop your purpose.They can shape it. Beatz and Culture Magazine is more than a publication; it’s proof that resilience, vision, and determination can create lasting impact. My mission remains the same: to uplift others, strengthen my community, and inspire people to keep moving forward, no matter what challenges they face.

I am known for turning adversity into purpose and using my voice to uplift others through storytelling, education, and community engagement.

I am the founder of Beatz and Culture Magazine and Beatz and Culture Media Group, an independent platform rooted in Atlanta that celebrates culture, creativity, entrepreneurship, and community. Through journalism, photography, videography, interviews, and visual storytelling, I have created opportunities for artists, entrepreneurs, and changemakers to share their stories with the world.

I am also an author and creator of children’s books, including The Adventures of Puma the Pomeranian and His Buddy Myles, and the Author of Through the Storm, a memoir inspired by resilience, perseverance, and overcoming life’s greatest challenges.

Through my writing, I strive to encourage others to keep moving forward with hope, courage, and purpose.

My educational journey includes earning a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Sociology. Throughout my career, I have served as a mental health professional and an adjunct professor, educating and mentoring students at several colleges and universities.

One of my greatest accomplishments has been rebuilding my life after surviving a traumatic brain injury. Rather than allowing that experience to define me, I chose to let it strengthen me. Today, I continue to advocate for resilience, raise awareness about traumatic brain injuries, and pursue opportunities to speak publicly, inspiring others to overcome adversity and embrace their potential.

Everything I create is driven by one purpose: to leave a legacy that empowers people, strengthens communities, amplifies overlooked voices, and proves that determination, faith, and perseverance can transform obstacles into opportunities.

Whether through Beatz and Culture Magazine, Beatz and Culture Media Group, Through the Storm, my children’s books, or my community work, my mission is to create a lasting impact. My story is still being written, and I believe my greatest accomplishments are still ahead.

Any big plans?
My future is centered on building a legacy that creates opportunities, inspires others, and leaves a lasting impact on my community.

I plan to continue growing Beatz and Culture Magazine and Beatz and Culture Media Group into a nationally recognized multimedia platform known for authentic storytelling, professional journalism, creative excellence, and meaningful community engagement. I want to expand our reach through print, digital media, photography, videography, interviews, documentaries, and community partnerships that elevate voices often overlooked by mainstream media.

I am committed to becoming a public speaker, using my personal journey after surviving a traumatic brain injury to educate, inspire, and raise awareness. My goal is to encourage others to overcome adversity, embrace resilience, and discover purpose through their own experiences.

As an author, I plan to continue writing children’s books, including expanding The Adventures of Puma the Pomeranian and His Buddy Myles series, while also growing Through the Storm into a platform that inspires hope, healing, and perseverance.

I look forward to partnering with organizations, schools, businesses, artists, and community leaders to create programs, events, and initiatives that strengthen communities and empower the next generation of leaders and creatives.

Most importantly, I want my work to leave a legacy that outlives me, a legacy built on service, integrity, creativity, resilience, and opportunity. I want to be remembered as someone who used every challenge as a stepping stone to help others rise, proving that with faith, determination, and purpose, anything is possible.
