Hi BC, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m BC Tray, an independent R&B artist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, now based in Atlanta.
Music has always been my way of turning real-life experiences into something people can connect with. While balancing a career in leadership and raising my son, I continued building my music independently, growing millions of streams and a loyal fanbase. Today, I’m focused on creating authentic music that tells real stories, connects with listeners, and leaves a lasting impact.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Absolutely not. My journey has been anything but smooth. I’ve experienced homelessness, lost the woman I thought I would spend the rest of my life with, and had to rebuild myself more than once. That kind of heartbreak changes you—it forces you to grow, reflect, and find purpose in your pain. Through it all, I realized you can’t separate the artist from the person. Every experience, every loss, and every lesson became part of my music. I don’t create from imagination—I create from real life. Those moments made me who I am, and that’s what allows people to connect with my music on a deeper level.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an R&B artist who creates music from real life. I don’t make records just to chase trends—I tell stories that people can actually feel. Whether it’s love, heartbreak, growth, or overcoming adversity, every song comes from a real experience. What I’m most proud of is building my career independently and earning millions of streams while staying true to myself. I think what sets me apart is my authenticity. I don’t separate BC Tray from the person behind the music because that’s where the best art comes from. My goal has always been to create timeless music that people can turn to during every season of their lives.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was the quiet kid who mostly stayed to himself. I was always the one singing in the hallways, and music became my escape before I ever imagined it would become my career. I loved sports and was naturally competitive, but I also had a lot of confidence—I won’t lie, I was definitely a ladies’ man. Looking back, I think I’ve always had the same personality: observant, driven, and passionate. I just express it through music now instead of keeping it to myself.
