Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Pettis.
Hi Candice, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into healthcare began in 2010 with a simple goal: to build a stable career in an industry that would always be needed. At the time, I saw healthcare as job security. I had no idea it would eventually become my purpose.
After relocating to Atlanta and joining Grady Health System, my perspective changed completely. Every day, I traveled through downtown Atlanta and witnessed the realities many people faced—homelessness, poverty, and barriers to accessing healthcare. Those experiences taught me that healthcare extends far beyond hospitals and insurance claims. Behind every account, every denied claim, and every unpaid balance is a person or family whose quality of life may depend on the outcome.
That realization sparked my passion for healthcare revenue cycle management. I understood that when hospitals and nonprofit healthcare organizations maximize reimbursement, they can reinvest those resources into expanding services, improving patient care, and reaching more underserved communities. Revenue cycle became more than numbers to me—it became another way of advocating for patients.
Then the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything.
While much of the world came to a standstill, I was working behind the scenes to ensure hospitals received timely reimbursement so they could continue caring for patients during one of the most challenging periods in modern healthcare. The pandemic also gave me time to think deeply about the future of healthcare. I became fascinated by the relationship between financial sustainability, health insurance, and patient access. I realized that strong revenue cycle operations don’t just improve a hospital’s bottom line—they help keep the doors open for the communities that depend on them.
In 2022, I took an unexpected but life-changing step into government affairs. Working as a Government Affairs Specialist for Pepco in Washington, D.C., I spent my time serving residents in Wards 7 and 8, connecting families with resources like LIHEAP, senior discounts, and energy assistance programs.
What I discovered was that many of the families I met weren’t simply struggling with utility bills. They were navigating a much bigger challenge. Environmental conditions, chronic health issues, financial hardship, and limited access to resources were all interconnected. It reinforced what I had already learned in healthcare: solving one problem rarely changes a person’s life. Real change happens when we address the bigger picture.
That experience inspired me to return to Atlanta and put pen to paper.
That’s when I created CandicePettis.com.
I intentionally branded my business with my own name because my reputation is my greatest asset. My work has always spoken louder than any marketing slogan ever could.
Today, CandicePettis.com represents the intersection of healthcare, public policy, and community impact. I help healthcare organizations strengthen their revenue cycle, maximize reimbursement, and improve operational performance while also educating individuals about health insurance so they can make informed decisions for themselves and their families.
I often tell people, “Google me.” Not because I’m seeking recognition, but because I believe your reputation should speak before you enter the room. Every opportunity I’ve earned has been built on results, relationships, and a genuine commitment to making healthcare work better for everyone.
Whether I’m working with hospital executives, healthcare teams, policymakers, or families in the community, my mission remains the same: to build stronger healthcare systems that ultimately create healthier communities.
This is more than my profession. It’s my purpose. And I’m just getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. Nothing worthwhile comes easy. In fact, I have a personal saying: “If it’s too easy, give it back.” I believe growth comes through challenges, and every stage of my journey has stretched me in a different way.
One of my biggest struggles wasn’t a lack of passion—it was figuring out how to transform what I knew in my head and what I felt in my heart into something that could truly create change. I knew I wanted to improve healthcare, but I wasn’t always sure where I could make the greatest impact.
The COVID-19 pandemic became one of the defining moments of my career. While the world was navigating fear and uncertainty, I was behind the scenes in healthcare revenue cycle management, ensuring hospitals received the reimbursement they needed to continue caring for patients. Many people see an insurance claim as paperwork. I see a patient waiting for treatment, a hospital keeping its doors open, and a family depending on their health coverage during one of the most uncertain times in history.
At the same time, I was balancing a full-time career while carrying a much bigger vision. I constantly asked myself: How can I help the healthcare system? How can I help the communities that depend on it? And how can I use my experience to make both stronger?
Those questions eventually led me into government affairs, where I gained an entirely new perspective on the social and economic challenges families face every day. That experience confirmed something I had been feeling all along: healthcare doesn’t begin and end inside hospital walls. It intersects with housing, utilities, public policy, education, and access to resources.
That’s when everything finally came together.
I realized I didn’t have to choose between healthcare, government affairs, or community advocacy. My purpose was to connect them. Every role I accepted, every challenge I faced, and every lesson I learned became part of a larger mission—to improve healthcare organizations while empowering the communities they serve.
Looking back, I’m grateful for every obstacle because each one prepared me for where I am today. They taught me resilience, patience, and that sometimes the greatest opportunities are hidden inside the hardest seasons.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Business Name: CandicePettis.com
I intentionally built my brand around my own name because my reputation is my greatest asset. I didn’t want a catchy business name—I wanted people to know that when they work with CandicePettis.com, they’re working with someone whose integrity, expertise, and results speak for themselves.
I have a saying that people know me by: “Google me.” Not because I’m looking for attention, but because I believe your work should introduce you before you walk into the room. Every opportunity I’ve earned has been built on trust, consistency, and delivering results.
Over the past 12 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the nation’s leading healthcare organizations, including Grady Health System, Emory Healthcare, and the University of Chicago Medicine. My career has also taken me into government affairs in Washington, D.C., where I worked alongside underserved communities to connect families with critical resources and advocate for greater access to essential services.
CandicePettis.com is more than a consulting brand—it’s the intersection of healthcare, public policy, and community impact. I specialize in healthcare revenue cycle strategy, revenue integrity, insurance reimbursement optimization, payer relations, denials management, and operational improvement. My mission is to help healthcare organizations strengthen their financial performance so they can continue expanding access to quality patient care.
What truly sets my brand apart is perspective. I’ve experienced healthcare from multiple angles—inside hospitals, within government, and out in the communities where people live every day. That experience allows me to bridge the gap between operational excellence and the real-world needs of patients and families.
As my brand continues to grow, my vision extends beyond consulting. I want CandicePettis.com to become a trusted platform where healthcare leaders, policymakers, and communities come together to improve healthcare access, strengthen organizations, and educate families on making informed healthcare decisions.
When people hear CandicePettis.com, I want them to think of trust, innovation, advocacy, and impact. I want them to know they’re working with someone who believes that when healthcare organizations thrive, communities thrive as well.
At the end of the day, my mission is simple: build stronger healthcare systems, empower informed patients, and leave every community better than I found it.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people know me for my work in healthcare revenue cycle, government affairs, and healthcare consulting. What many people don’t know is that I’m incredibly creative.
Before every strategy, presentation, or business plan, I start with a blank sheet of paper and simply write. I love building ideas from the ground up—whether it’s creating a new business concept, designing a website, planning a community initiative, or developing a vision for the future. That’s exactly how CandicePettis.com was born. It wasn’t created in a boardroom; it started with a notebook, a pen, and a belief that I could bridge the gap between healthcare, public policy, and community impact.
That creativity has followed me throughout every chapter of my life. Before focusing fully on healthcare, I worked in event planning, where I learned how to create unforgettable experiences, manage complex logistics, and bring people together with purpose. Those skills continue to influence the way I lead projects and build relationships today.
Outside of my professional career, I’m also the manager behind my son’s growing acting career. From coordinating auditions, productions, travel, and contracts to helping him navigate opportunities in the entertainment industry, I’ve learned that managing talent requires the same strategic thinking, organization, and long-term vision that I apply in healthcare consulting.
At my core, I’m a creator and a builder. I don’t just enjoy solving problems—I enjoy imagining possibilities that don’t yet exist and bringing them to life. Whether I’m strengthening a healthcare organization’s revenue cycle, developing a new business idea, planning a community initiative, producing an unforgettable event, or helping my son pursue his dreams, I’m driven by one simple goal: to turn vision into reality.
I think that’s what surprises people the most. They see the healthcare executive, but behind the title is someone who loves creating, building, and inspiring others to dream bigger
