okay we’d like to introduce you to Mike Conaway.
Mike, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The Healing Bridge Clinic began as a dream of a local retired nurse in 2008. After discussing with several friends, her church and other local medical professionals, the decision was made to apply for 501c3 status and begin seeing patients. The first clinic night was in September of 2009 and the volunteer doctor at the first clinic remains a volunteer doctor to this day. I became part of the HBC story in 2012 when our small group began providing volunteer meals on a regular basis. After being asked to sit on the board of directors, I became Board President and served in that role for 3 years. In the fall of 2017, I was set to roll off the board and was asked if I would consider moving into the vacant role of Executive Director. It was an honor to be asked and an even greater honor to serve in this role. With the community relations I have built in the past 30+ years of living, connecting, and serving this community, I am confident that the work of the Healing Bridge Clinic will impact more and more people. In 2017 we served 71 different clinic dates and had over 800 patient visits. We are on pace to exceed those numbers for 2018 and believe that we will only grow more in the very near future.
Has it been a smooth road?
Growing any organization has a day to day struggles, but overall, we have been blessed with tremendous volunteers, dedicated staff, talented board members, and a very supportive community.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Healing Bridge Clinic provides free medical care for the uninsured and under-insured of Fayette, Coweta, and South Fulton counties. Patients must be within 200% of the Federal Poverty level. In addition to primary care, we offer Chiropractic care, limited Dentistry, Orthopedic, Dermatology, and emotional counseling. We will continue adding services and providing new avenues of health and wellness moving forward. While our specialty is free health care, I believe we are best known for our care and compassion. We love our patients and are intentional about making them feel loved when they visit us. Our volunteer medical providers are not just medical experts, they are relational and intentional with their compassion and care. As an organization, we must “think outside the box” and provide multiple ways for our patients to experience life change. We must ask, how can we resource our patients to help them take one step toward an improved life? Currently, we are answering this question by implementing a hypertension program. We’ve selected several patients who have been diagnosed with moderate hypertension and provided them with blood pressure cuffs, logbooks, and resources for them to begin a daily regimen of checking their BP, exercising, we are offering cooking classes that not only teach healthier cooking, but also how to eat smart on a limited budget. At the end of this program, we will have all the data analyzed and a report will be provided reflecting the impact made on these lives. We anticipate that those involved will see improvement in health, energy, weight loss and be better educated on what to eat and how to shop to continue taking control of their conditions and begin to better manage their lives. We believe things like this hypertension program, combined with our desire to equip our patients with opportunities to experience life change are what sets us apart from other clinics.
