Today we’d like to introduce you to Shauntavien Currie.
Shauntavien, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I had a childhood that forced me to grow up faster than most. I was removed from one home and placed in a safer loving environment. I was bullied in school. I turned to makeup and beauty as an outlet. It saved me. I’m forever grateful. My first, most used, and still loved product is Mary Kay.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m a makeup artist, special effects artist, and body painter. Along with classes and training and tutorials, I also use science fiction novels I’m addicted to for inspiration. The message I hope people take away is that there is freedom in passion. Follow it. Be free. Be yourself. What people should know about my art is that my art is my expression. It’s my freedom. My happy place. My thinking place.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
No. If anything the world is becoming more visual and aesthetically pleasing. Throughout the years the makeup industry has always been productive. Movies, entertainment, politicians… makeup is used for all, by all. There will always be a need.
