Today we’d like to introduce you to Connie S. Falls.
Connie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hey Entrepreneurs! Originally I am from Fresno, California, I have always despised all things school and learning. Once my father accepted a job as the Chief of Security at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia and allowed me to take a tour of my FIRST Historically Black College, I never looked back. I spent four years at Paine learning to become a leader on my campus and within my community. As a business major, I learned to love the process of writing business plans and understanding how businesses were operated. Upon graduation, I left Georgia to head home to Cali, but I missed my siblings, and the ability to play the “big sister” role in their lives. After an emotional call from my little sister, Niya, I packed up my things and made my move to Atlanta.
I worked in the construction industry for years, but eventually the stress off 4 am mornings and 10 pm nights overwhelmed me into migraines and blacking out behind the wheel leaving work. I quit… IMMEDIATELY. With no plan. No savings. And no idea what I would do with my life. I ended up moving into my father’s house and sleeping in the living room with literally all of my belongings. The only “job” I had was running my ten-year-old sister’s “Neighborhood Candy Store” when she was at school. This kid had projections, profit margins, PowerPoint presentations, and everything else my father, Elmer, made her create in order to run her business.
She asked me one day, as I sat on my bed in the living room, “So what are you going to do with your life? Didn’t you go to college? You help with my business, but what kind of business do you want to have? What do you know how to do?”
Yep, my ten-year-old sister.
I spent a few days trying to pick my face up off the ground and organizing my thoughts when I eventually remembered my love for writing business plans. I’ll be doggoned if she hadn’t gotten my WHOLE life together. She even came up with the name.
In 2007, I started my first business, now Entrepreneur Life Global, and within the first six months, I had over 15 clients that I’d created businesses for. I started to transition from just writing the plans to consulting, as I realized that many of the people that started businesses didn’t know how to actually run a business.
Through strategic partnerships with banks and client referrals, ELG grew to be a consulting agency that focused primarily on business management and development as well as consulting.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My biggest struggle was and has always been the same as most small businesses. Funding. When you’re used to receiving a check every two weeks, ON TIME, and having health benefits, transitioning to Entrepreneurship SUCKS. Your checks are based on your WORK. And you CAN NOT cheat the grind.
My second biggest struggle was dealing my “feelings”. As an empath, whenever my emotions would get the best of me, my work/money would slow down. I want everyone to be great, and when they wouldn’t do what I consulted them to do and failed, I would feel bad. When my personal life was off due to my divorce, there were days (and months) that I couldn’t even get out of bed. It wasn’t until I found my home church, New Life Baptist Church, was I able to find peace and focus that wasn’t reliant upon my business OR my emotions.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Entrepreneur Life Global story. Tell us more about the business.
Over the years, I have diversified my offerings and expanded into the federal sector with a Government Contracting division. ELG has worked with various agencies including:
Department of Veterans Affairs
Bureau of Indian Affairs
Department of the Navy
Department of the Justice
U.S. Department of the Interior
Army National Guard
In 2012, I was honored to be named the 1st National Director of Dell’s Regional Ambassadors Program. In this position I was tasked with creating and developing the foundation of The Regional Ambassador Program. The program is part of the Dell Innovators Credit Fund, Dell’s commitment of up to $100 million dollars to fuel entrepreneurial success in the global marketplace.
In 2014, I accepted the position of Director of Global Ambassadors for EBW2020. EBW2020 (Empowering a Billion Women by 2020), founded by Ingrid Vanderveldt, works with the Presidents, CEOs, and VPs of Global 1000 companies to bridge their companies into the emerging business community worldwide. The EBW2020 Global Ambassadors serve as a “voice for their communities” and a bridge between the corporations, policymakers and women entrepreneurs towards the unified goal of Empowering a Billion Women by 2020 with the tools, technology, and resources to power their success.
As of 2018, I am most proud that ELG has created over 100 businesses in the United States. Ranging from IT and entertainment companies to restaurants and hair salons. I have transitioned from consulting mid-sized businesses to focusing primarily on minority, women-owned and Veteran-owned small businesses.
My first book launched on my father’s 60th birthday, October 10, titled Scrambled Eggs: The Must-Have Playbook for Organizing an Entrepreneurs Brain. Available at www.scrambledeggstheplaybook.com and on Amazon. The purpose of this book is to help small businesses become systematized and create processes that allow sustainability for generations to come. Through the book and my business coaching program, I am able to help new and established entrepreneurs throughout the U.S. make sense of their ‘Scrambled Eggs”.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in God. The role He has played in my life has been the most important. He showed me that once I trusted in Him ALONE, I could achieve anything. And I AM.
