Actress Amber Barnes of Georgia on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Actress Amber Barnes shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Actress Amber, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
What’s bringing me joy is being able to spend time with my beautiful daughter Autumn Bell & decorating my new place in GA. It took me a while but I finally made it out of NC and I’m proud of myself. I’m also trying to tap into being a famous content creator so whenever I find the time to do it, it makes me happy. I also love to shop & meditate.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Well my name is Amber Barnes but I go by Actress Amber. I am an inspiring Executive Producer with a movie I am currently still working on called “Liquid.” I am an actress, assistant director, model, event host, inspiring content creator, and entrepreneur with a business called A&A Deluxe Spa (still working on). I wear many hats. I recently moved to GA to further my career and to really make a name for myself before I get too old. Lol What makes my brand interesting is because I am able to connect with so many other talents and learn from them to make myself better and to be an inspiration to young women or kids who wants to follow in my footsteps because in this business it’s never easy. I have one beautiful daughter who looks up to me and she’s all the motivation I need. She keeps me on my toes and I pray one day she’s able to follow her dreams as an artist & be able to inspire other girls too.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I believed that I wasn’t good enough. Back in my school days I was always bullied about the clothes I wore, my hairstyles and that I wasn’t pretty enough. I felt like I would always be this nerdy kid whom wouldn’t amount to anything but now I’m much more than good enough. I’m that girl. I’ve grown to love myself a bit more and to know that I can master anything I put my mind to. I wear nice outfits cus I’m more into fashion, I keep myself up (been called conceited but I guess it’s just how people see me) I feel as though nobody is perfect and whomever has a problem with it can go straight to hell. I’m not perfect or your typical IG model but I’m loyal, adventurous, loving and have a good heart. I’ve dealt with things I honestly believe people would of lost their minds if they knew my back story but I put God first in everything I do and although I fall short sometimes its okay, I always get back up and dust myself off & try again.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I don’t think I’ve ever fully healed but relationships man! I’ve had some s*** relationships in my past that almost broke me down bad. Relationships will make or break you for real especially if you’re trying to balance career and motherhood. The wrong person could really set you back. Had I not been so invested in the wrong people and feeding into the wrong people, I’ve would’ve been more advance then I am now. It’s just that I love hard and I give everything in me but I just keep getting into the same toxic cycle lol Now make no mistake, I am currently in a relationship with someone from Montgomery, Al name Gary Jackson Jr and I hope this relationship does work out but if it doesn’t it’s because God has something better for me. The person I’m with I do content with and we re both fixated on blowing up. I love the fact that we re both in the business of being infamous and he does push me..I feel as though that’s what everyone needs…Someone who pushes them & believes in them. Is our relationship perfect, far from it but we try and we travel, we have fun together & at times really feel like we re the best of friends.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They would say my career and my family matters to me. Career being # 1 because I’m always on go and no matter where I’m at, I’m gonna make a way cus I’m that hungry for it. I only have a hand full of best friends that are my ride or dies from NC and that’s Jessica Lynch, Shanetta Alston, Melissa Rattray, Roshay Anthony, Rashaad Hudson, Eric Shields, Jevara Ward Crandall, Clifton Pearsall, Jermaine Sledge (bro) & Angel Johnson. I love their life! Always accepting to me and my ways and rooting for me. If I ever blow up I’ll fly all them out and that’s on me! I have other friends too but they are my everything. RIP to my brother Quintin Barnes & my daddy Willie Arrington! They’re gone but not forgotten and the only close family I have on this earth is my beautiful sister Ashley Barnes or Lucas who stays in Charlotte NC & ofc my mom Lisa Barnes from little Rocky Mount, NC. S/O to my Aunty Leatta Spruill from Killeen, Texas and my other Aunty Robbin Hedgepeth aka Aunt Cookies lol from Red Oak, NC and my cousin Adara Spruill (Texas) She’s a dope hairstylist and a beautiful wifey and my other cousin Niyah from Nashville NC. Okay I’m done lol I’m tired …

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I wouldn’t say I tap danced at work but um I remember quitting my job to go work under Yaya Dacosta for 6 months and it was amazing. I met Morris Chestnut and bonded with him, Joe Morton (who gave me advice about the industry), Lance Gross and pretty much the whole cast of Our Kind of People. It was a fun experience and I’ve learned so much while on set. After that I got in trouble at my other job because I had to leave to be on Lifetime as leading star for a tv show called Meet, Marry, Murder and that was a blessing to me.
