We recently had the chance to connect with Ameerah Jihad and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ameerah, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Skating! I’ve always loved to skate since a little girl. I was so determined to learn that I would constantly fall and get right back up until I got it. Now I am working on doing more moves in my skates and it has been so therapeutic for me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi I am Ameerah aka StylesByMeerah. I am a master cosmetologist located in Duluth, GA. I’ve been here for 4 months now. I am still building my clientele but so far business has been good! I specialize in Locs. I provide re-attachments, loc maintenance, loc detox, styling and most importantly Quality Service! This isn’t just work for me it’s a passion. I care about my clients needs and doing whats best for them. When you’re in my chair I want you to feel safe in my hands and to me that is what makes my services special. Outside of quality service, my overall work speaks for itself! My name is not StylesByMeerah for nothing I really do my thing with styling locs. One thing I am working on is my designs for an upcoming hair show that I am a contestant in. It is with LilBitCollections so if you’re in ATL come see me and other stylist put on a SHOW!! It will be this summer in June 2026. Stay tuned for tickets!!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would have to say one of the leaders at Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School of Roanoke. When I first started I was nervous. I also started by myself so I had no other student to lean on to say we’re in this together. As soon as I started she would always motivate me and tell me she believed in me. When I came out of core and began on the floor she would tell clients about how great I was when she had never even seen me work on a client. She also moved me to phase 2 without me being interviewed because she believed I had what it takes. That really helped me believe that I made the right decision in starting cosmetology school and also made me feel seen in a room full of students that had already been there for some time and me being the only “newbie”.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me how to be more humble, thankful and knowing what to do and not to do. I believe that if someone never suffers or fails on their journey to success they will never truly value their success. Some things that I have accomplished the first time without making any mistakes, made me feel big headed like I just naturally got it until I failed. Then I had to take the time to really sit back and think about what I did wrong and how I can learn from my mistakes. Suffering or failing is crucial on the path to success and without suffering I dont think I would truly feel like I succeeded.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. I am the same me on and off the internet. What you see is really what you get. I do go off energy so I may be more reserved in some environments than when Im alone or with people I know personally but overall thats still the real me.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
My character. Without my name, role or possessions I would still be who I am at the end of the day and every morning I wake up. None of those things define who I am as a person or can change my character.
