We’re looking forward to introducing you to Anthony Elias. Check out our conversation below.
Anthony, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
“Not all that glitters is gold”
I believe one of most misunderstood things about the business as a whole is what it looks like on the outside between the final product of a project, social media and how people present themselves in this business. It is very hard, can be financially struggling and the rules are always changing when navigating through the politics within the rooms where decisions are made. It is very important to know and understand what your goals are when entering this business so that you can find success the best way possible that makes you happy. It takes patience, self awareness, discipline, resilience and grit. You’re gonna be told a lot of “No’s” before you get a “Yes”.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Anthony Giovanni Elias. I’m an actor, martial artist and fight choreographer. Throughout my many years of training I’ve studied various styles of martial art such as Muay Thai, Capoeira, Kali, Judo and more. I’ve been in the business for 15 years and I am mentored by international action star, Marrese Crump (The Protector 2, Black Panther, Sultan).
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was just a nerdy kid from New York. Timid yet hyper. Was always told I needed to put my energy towards something whether it was creative or to boost my self confidence. While I was pretty extroverted, I was a shy one. I also bullied as a kid and eventually my mom signed me up for martial arts and it changed my life forever. As for my love for the arts, I grew up watching all sorts of films and TV from Superman (78), Xena: The Warrior Princess, The Crow, Conan The Barbarian, Jackie Chan films and more. I used to watch them so much, I used to recite them line for line and found myself acting them out while quoting them. It wasn’t til I got into TV production class in high school where I found that I had a talent for both in front and behind the camera. And I’ve been on this journey since.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
That anything too easily attainable isn’t worth keeping at all.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
What you see is always what you’ll get with me. I do enough acting when the cameras are rolling. And even when I’m acting, there’s a bit of truth in all the roles I’ve played. I like to say that every character is just a different version of myself.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Honestly, I’d actually stop acting. I’d spend the rest of my years with my loved ones in peace, see the world and finish my bucket list. Perhaps even share my knowledge to my children or to anyone who wants to learn and it may help to fulfill their own dreams and legacy.
