We recently had the chance to connect with Cam Watson and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Cam , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am most proud of building this business and name for myself. What nobody sees is the amount of work I put in day and night to make this possible for myself. Although I have MUA behind my name, it doesn’t stop there. Most people do not know or see that I still work a full time job outside of weddings. My week consists of going to my medical office job as a Prosthetics Coordinator and a bridal MUA on the weekends. While at times it can be a lot and overwhelming to keep up, I would not change my crazy schedule for the world. I love my patients and I love my brides. What most people did not see the first year in business were the sacrifices I had to make to make it all possible. Going from free weekends spending all of my time with friends to saying “I cant, I have a wedding” was a real mental battle. I am very family oriented and always want to be apart of what they are doing. Now, it has become normal for me. I learned to handle those emotions better and realize that the sacrifices I make today will get me to where I want to be in the future, and for that, I am thankful.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Cameron Watson and I am the face behind Cam Watson Beauty. I am a professional makeup artist that specializes in soft and full glam bridal makeup. What makes Cam Watson Beauty so special is the family behind it. I am not the MUA to only text/email/comment when your wedding day is close, but throughout the whole journey. From the day a bride books me, to the day of her wedding, she is apart of the CWB family. My goal is to make sure the bride has the easiest planning process when it comes to makeup and feels more like a friend than just a client. At the end of the day, they are trusting me on the biggest day of their life. There are many exciting things coming in the future for Cam Watson Beauty and I cant wait to see where it takes me!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
As cliché as it may sound, I truly would not be where I am today without my parents. My mom and dad have poured so much into me during this process of building my business. From funding my makeup addiction, to always reassuring how proud they are and being my biggest supporters in life. They have never failed me and are the reason I work as hard as I do. My parents are business owners and I have seen first hand the amount of work that goes into it which in return has only shaped me and my business. I am forever thankful to have 2 great parents who have taught me the importance of work ethic.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to be you and do not let others walk all over you. Your heart is too big and your spirit is too strong to let it be hidden. Be unapologetically you and have fun while doing it.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends know that my business and our friendships matter most to me. They have been there to see me from the beginning of my career to now and they know what I have put into my business to grow it where it is today. I have sacrificed so much of my time with them to build it. Those people matter most to me because they have never once shamed me for choosing work over activities, but instead stood next to me and cheered me on. Their support is all that I need and makes it all possible at the end of the day.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Some of my brides know that on wedding mornings, I am ALWAYS jamming on the car ride. Whether it is my fav R&B music to my hard core rap, I am making sure the vibes are high for such an important day. I truly feel a sense of happiness and excitement every morning on the way to a wedding because there is truly no feeling like it. I get to go have fun with some amazing people while doing what I love. If I knew how to tap dance, I can guarantee I would be doing that as well.
