We recently had the chance to connect with Cheray Griffin and have shared our conversation below.
Cheray, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes, absolutely! If I’m hiring someone to do what I do, they’ve got to care. I know myself well, I bring passion, patience, and a genuine love for helping people grow and feel good through movement. Plus, I show up with good energy, music, and maybe a few goofy jokes. I’d hire me because I know I’d get someone who gives their all every single time.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey! hey! I’m Cheray , also known as Neasy. I am a dancer, choreographer, and recording artist who basically lives life to a beat. I’m also the founder of Groovement Mobile Dance Lessons, which is exactly what it sounds like, I bring the dance studio to you. Your home, your school, your office, your grandma’s backyard… wherever there’s a little space to move and not too many breakable things, I’m there!
My whole mission is to make dance and choreography accessible and customized to you, personal, and fun for everybody. Whether you’ve been dancing for years or you just dance in the kitchen when nobody’s watching. I love helping people find their groove and that little spark of confidence that comes out when you start moving.
On the music side, I create a mix of pop, electronic funk, with a hit of soul. So, the kind of music that makes you want to dance without even realizing you’re doing it. Dance and music are both my languages. They connect people, lift energy, and honestly, they’re the best therapy I know.
What makes my brand unique is that it’s not just about learning choreography; it’s about discovering YOU through rhythm and having a good time while doing it. Right now, I’m working on new music and growing Groovement so even more people can experience that “I didn’t know I could do that!” moment. And yes, there’s usually a lot of laughter involved. Currently I have been working and performing with several music artists training them, in dance and working with them on stage performance and creative directing their shows and brands. Had a wonderful time working with singer and songwriter Rravii. We recently had a ball at Taste of Soul Atlanta food & music festival this passed August. She is amazing! You all get ready for her! In 2026 it’s going to be a party everywhere we go. Look out for Rravii & The Delphines.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My mother, as she owned her own hair salon business. Growing up, I watched her and admire her work ethic, how loyal, and caring she was to her clients. Being raised by a single mother, my sister and I always had, and never wanted for nothing. I wanted the same for myself as an adult.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self “You are more than enough.” As a young one, I struggled in elementary school with my subjects due to being diagnosed with ADD and Hyperactivity. I had a hard time focusing and understanding because of how I learned. This broke me as a child, as I had several embarrassing moments in the classroom. I felt like I was never good enough due to my struggles in school. It didn’t last long though. Actually, dance helped me with focusing and gave me an outlet to put all of that hyperactivity into something positive and healthy. I still struggle with it today, but with all the years of working on controlling it, now it works for me! What I mean by that is I use it to put back into my every day work and career. I feel as though if I didn’t have my ADD and hyperactivity I probably wouldn’t get half of the task completed needed of me when it comes to my business. My ADD and hyperactivity is a gift in a curse but more so a gift I am learning every day. People always ask me, How do you do it all? I always reply with a smile and giggle..
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Oh, absolutely! What you see is what you get! In a world where you can filter, caption, and “curate” your personality, I honestly don’t know how to be anyone other than me. The version of me you see in public is the same one dancing around the house in socks, talking to myself, and laughing at my own jokes. I’m still that silly, hyperactive, loving, and caring woman with the colorful hair and big smile. Just trying to spread a little rhythm and joy wherever I go.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, absolutely. I’ve learned to give my best, even when no one’s watching or applauding. When you truly love what you do, it just feels natural to pour your heart into it. There have been times in my career where I didn’t get credit for my work situations with selfish or unfair studio owners, but even then, I gave it my all. Because at the end of the day, my work represents who I am, not who notices. I’m far from perfect, and I’ve had my struggles, but I always push through and keep faith that God will take care of the rest. Doing my best simply feels right, its just simply who I am.
