We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ghetto Muva. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Ghetto, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Energy
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ghetto Muva and I am a Plus Size Pop/Funk Musical Artist that represents my black/ heritage culture every single chance I get!
I am known for creating music from a Black woman’s perspective, highlighting and finding beauty in our Black culture and community, which I see as artistic and purposeful rather than just
“ghetto” or “ratchet” as everyone else views it!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that shaped how I see the world, honestly was when I moved to the West Side of Atlanta! I was able to see an authentic side of my black culture! A part of the A that wasnt gentrified! The west side was labeled “The Ghetto” “The Hood” and I never saw it that way! I saw something powerful! Black art, soul food, urban fashion, beautiful gardens! They dont even show this side on the news! So I make it my mission to tell everyone! ☺️!
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I am a black woman that cannot change who I am and I authentically love being a black woman! Instead of feeling down because society wants me too, being a Black Woman has become my superpower! I show up everywhere as a Super Hero Black Woman! I also use my power in my music which you can find on Spotify when you search “Ghetto Muva”!
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
How dope we are as melanated people
I always say we are the blue print, the innovators, the chosen ones
If we could just sit our egos and pride to the side, stop hating each other and stop the crab bucket mentality, we could conquer the whole entire world
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What light inside you have you been dimming?
I was at a place where I would dim my light and shrink to please others and make myself feel super tiny so that everyone else could feel big! I no longer value this thought process!
But Now that I think big, feel big and move big and I am slightly bigger lol,
I refuse to dim my light so someone else can outshine me and take my spotlight!
My light is too bright to let others make me feel invisible!
My mom and God told me I am a Natural Born Star!
