We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jessica Armstrong. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
The notion that wedding invitations or stationery are not an important part of the wedding is definitely a common misconception about my business. A printed invitation is in fact one of the few items from your wedding that guests will keep, hang on the fridge, post on the bulletin board for weeks and weeks before the wedding. It sets the tone for the wedding and provides guests with a glimpse at what is to come. Wedding invitations and paper stationery also make perfect, tangible keepsakes to remember that special day and not just something you look at on your phone. You can actually hold it, feel it and that makes an impact whether it’s the guest opening it for the first time or the bride and groom reminiscing on their 50th wedding anniversary.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jessica, the owner of Tiger Lily Invitations. Over the past 15 years, I’ve built a creative brand from the ground up, dedicated to designing beautiful invitation suites, wedding stationery, and day-of details that elevate every celebration. We love collaborating one-on-one with our clients to create custom stationery that reflects their personal style and makes their events truly unforgettable.
With our many years of experience, we’re able to guide clients through every step of the stationery process—offering expert advice and easing some of the stress that comes with wedding planning. For those who prefer a simpler approach, our Signature Collection offers a curated selection of ready-made designs. Clients can choose their favorite, share a few details, and we take care of the rest, allowing them to focus on the other elements of their big day.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I was an extremely shy child who hated reading aloud in class, giving presentations, or even talking to new people. I never believed that I would be comfortable being a leader or have an outgoing personality. Although I’m still not crazy about speaking in front of a large audience and I can be on the quiet side at times, I’m not afraid to voice my opinion, stand up for what is right or talk about what I’m passionate about. Owning my business has pushed me out of my comfort zone and molded me into a leader, who loves to meet clients, and share my industry knowledge with others, even if it’s on a stage.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Just do it! I’m an overthinker, so sometimes I just need someone to say stop thinking about it and just do it!
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
After being in the wedding and stationery industry for over 15 years, it is easy for me to spot a passing fad and a foundational shift. Fads are more superficial, like colors or styles and they will always come and go. As a creative professional I have to know when to let a fad pass by or when to incorporate it in our design work. Foundational shifts are more behind the scenes and can be more disruptive for a business, for example the increased use of AI, templates and DIY by consumers. Those are larger shifts that can derail a business or even an entire industry. Being in the creative industry we have to be flexible on both fronts in order to continue to grow the business and appeal to clients.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
The customer service, attention to detail and years of expertise we provide. I really love connecting with our clients, getting to know their likes and dislikes and guiding them through the stationery process. That is something they can’t get from AI, a beginning stationer or a DIY platform. We also have clients we have worked with for over 10 years. They started as wedding clients, then purchased birth announcements and now party and holiday stationery. Some of them will just send me a photo at Christmas and say, “I trust you to create a perfect holiday card for us. No matter what you create, it will be great.”
