An Inspired Chat with Kela Johnson of Atlanta

We recently had the chance to connect with Kela Johnson and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kela, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Digital Content Creating and running social media pages have been the highlight of my days. I have various interests so I have multiple pages that I use to share my different interests. Usually my numbers are really good, so I feel good about creating content that people enjoy.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello everyone! I’m Kela Johnson and Exclusively Kela is my brand. As a Fashion/Accessories Designer my goal is to bring a chic, trendy,and classy look to the streets. My goal as a Designer is to have my customers feeing good when they wear something they’ve purchased from me. The designs that I create are exclusive to my customers. I also have a vegan makeup line that has some long-lasting products. Right now I’m working on my Denim Blues line that includes denim Accessories and clothing.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my children has shaped how I see myself. No matter how I’m feeling, I always have to be a super hero in their eyes. Being a mom has taught me that I can always make something out of nothing. When it comes to having just a few food items,I’ve learned to stretch the meal a long way. Because I’m a mom I’ve also educated myself on holistic healing so they see me as a magician when I miraculously helped them feel better when they’re sick.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been plenty of times that I’ve almost given up, but owning a boutique and being a Designer has been my dream since I was like 4 or 5 years old. There have been many challenges in my life as a single parent that have set me back,but I’ve never truly given up on my dream. I have 2 sons with behavioral health issues so of course business and my dreams have to take the back end to me being a mother first.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Realness is in my bloodline so I’m always real whether I’m in the public or at home. I don’t care about what people think of me. One can only hide their true character for so long!

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m definitely doing what I was born to do. I’m a Taurus so everything about the Fashion industry excites me. I love for people to look good and smell good. I love to look good and smell good. Aesthetics are pleasing to the eyes. One day hopefully I will also have my on fragrances for people to wear.
