An Inspired Chat with LaToya Branch & Desiree Nichols

LaToya Branch & Desiree Nichols shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

LaToya & Desiree, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Toya:
I used to be afraid of stepping into the spotlight, showing myself to others while promoting the business. I always preferred being behind the scenes. But this journey has pushed me to come out of my introverted shell and take that leap. It’s my inner strength that keeps me moving forward, encouraging me to do more and be more visible.

Desiree:
I’m being called to take a leap of faith, to embrace change and be more open to new possibilities. It’s about trusting my ideas and using them to do more, to be more. Most importantly, it means showing up for myself every day, even when it’s tough, and being true to who I am.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
At the heart of every great gathering is a delicious spread that brings people together, and that’s exactly what Charcuterie & Desserts by A Touch of Patience & Perseverance, LLC is all about. Founded by two best friends, Toya and Desiree, the business is a beautiful blend of passion, creativity, friendship, and faith, crafted to turn every occasion into a memorable celebration.

Rooted firmly with God as our foundation, we live by the truth of Romans 8:25: “But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.” This verse inspires our journey, reminding us that with faith, patience, and perseverance, beautiful things unfold in its own perfect time.

Toya has always been a baker at heart. From a young age, she loved spending time baking with her mom, learning the art of creating sweet treats and cherishing those special moments of connection. Baking was more than just a skill, it was a way to show love and care, a tradition passed down that grounded her in purpose and joy. That heartfelt passion for desserts eventually blossomed into the stunning, mouthwatering creations she now brings to life through of A Touch of Patience & Perseverance.

On the other hand, Desiree’s relationship with cooking has a humorously different story. While she never quite took to the kitchen like Toya, she always had one “signature dish” she proudly brought to every potluck, her beautifully arranged charcuterie boards. Her knack for curating the perfect combination of flavors, textures, and colors quickly became a fan favorite among friends and family. This unexpected talent perfectly complemented Toya’s baking skills and laid the foundation for their unique partnership.

Together, Toya and Desiree launched Charcuterie & Desserts by A Touch of Patience & Perseverance, LLC to offer beautifully curated charcuterie boards alongside delectable dessert selections. Our business is dedicated to creating elegant, delicious spreads that elevate any event; whether it’s an intimate gathering, a festive celebration, or a corporate affair. From artisanal cheeses, cured meats, fresh fruits, and nuts to indulgent, homemade sweets, every offering is thoughtfully crafted to delight the senses and bring people closer together.

With a perfect balance of Toya’s baking expertise and Desiree’s creative flair, A Touch of Patience & Perseverance, LLC has quickly become a go-to for those who want to impress their guests with food that looks as good as it tastes. More than just food, their creations tell a story of friendship, faith, family, and the joy of sharing moments that matter.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
Toya:
My father taught me the most about work. He was an incredible man—a man of faith, a devoted provider, and someone who showed up consistently every day. From him, I learned the true value of hard work and the importance of being not just diligent, but also a good person.

Desiree:
My dad taught me the most about work as well. He showed me that no matter the circumstances, you keep persevering. You keep showing up, even when others doubt you. He taught me discipline, growth, and the importance of always betting on yourself, all while striving to be the best version of yourself in God’s image.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Toya:
Despite the insecurities, keep going. Keep pushing. Persevere. It’s okay to speak your truth and let people see the real you, there’s strength in that. You don’t have to shrink yourself to fit in.

Desiree:
Be patient. Everything will come in its own time. You don’t have to control every detail, trust that the outcome, especially when it’s in God’s hands, will always work in your favor.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Toya (on Desiree):
What really matters to Desiree is being able to see things from other people’s perspectives. She’s always thinking about how to make sure everyone feels seen and included. Protecting her peace is important to her, and she’s such a natural motivator, always encouraging others to grow and keep going.

Desiree (on Toya):
For Toya, quality time (especially with her family) is everything. She genuinely lights up when she’s surrounded by the people she loves. Helping others is her passion; she’s always looking for ways to lift people up and be a source of support and strength.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
Toya:
I feel most at peace when I’m working on the business or spending time with my kids. Those moments feel grounding, there’s a sense of purpose and calm when I can focus without distractions. Whether it’s building something meaningful or just being present with my family, that’s when I feel most centered.

Desiree:
For me, it’s being on the beach or out walking in nature, anywhere I can breathe deeply and feel connected to the world around me. I also find peace in the work of expanding our business. That sense of movement and growth, both personally and professionally, is really grounding for me.
