An Inspired Chat with Lyris Lyris the Curator of East Atlanta

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lyris Lyris the Curator. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Lyris , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
This is such a great question! I think what so many people secretly struggle with, but rarely say out loud, is the fear that their dreams aren’t possible and how hard it feels to stay consistent and inspired when trying to change those beliefs or habits. So many of us feel this pull — a creative spark, a vision, a knowing that we’re meant for more — but we hide it because we’re scared of being judged, or of failing, or of leaving the safe path we’ve been told to follow. I know this firsthand — for years I judged myself for getting stuck in the same loops, and that judgment is exactly what kept me stuck.

What I’ve learned is that there’s nothing wrong with you if you find yourself in a pattern. In fact, it’s a sign that you’re becoming aware of an area of your life you’re ready to change. The real question becomes: how?

For me, it started with belief — belief in myself, and in my ability to change. The next step was self-discovery: learning who I am beneath the doubt, uncovering the limiting beliefs that kept me small, and choosing to transmute them. That’s when the transformation begins. When you change those beliefs, you unlock the inspiration to finally be consistent in creating the life you desire.

My work isn’t just about music — it’s about offering sonic portals and creative activations that help people break free of those loops, reconnect with their spark, and step into the life they know they’re meant to create. I give people a space to remember: your imagination isn’t random, it’s a calling. And once you believe in that, you can design the life you truly desire. Because at the end of the day, the secret struggle isn’t really about discipline — it’s about belief. Once you shift that, consistency and inspiration flow naturally.”

So yes — I think the struggle is that quiet, unspoken fear of ‘what if I can’t?’ And my mission is to help turn that into, ‘what if I can?’”

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Lyris the Curator, formally known as DJ Lyris. I’m an artist, DJ/producer, and visionary creator. My brand, The Creator Within, is more than music — it’s a movement. Through creative landscapes, curated events, and inspirational storytelling, I help people awaken their inner creator, dissolve self-doubt, and believe in their power to design the life they desire.

My journey began with music as my medicine. For years I wrestled with doubt and limiting beliefs, but when I leaned fully into creativity, I discovered that belief is the first beat of transformation. Now my mission is to use music not just as entertainment, but as a portal — a way for people to remember their spark, to feel inspired, and to step boldly into their dreams.

My brand originally launched as “The Hybrid Specialist,” where I focused on DJing, production, and event curation. Over time, I realized my true calling was bigger — not just creating experiences, but guiding others to awaken their own creative power. That evolution birthed “The Creator Within: a movement dedicated to transformation through music, creative activations, and belief.”

What makes my work unique is how it bridges artistry and transformation. Whether it’s through a DJ set, a lifestyle vlog, or an immersive creative soundscape, everything I share is intentionally crafted to be both inspiring and activating. I’m currently launching “The Creator Within experience, a digital + live offering of sonic portals, and creative activations/practices designed to guide people from self-doubt to possibility.” Each soundscape is designed to move you from doubt to belief, from dreaming to doing, and to activate your power to create boldly in every area of your life.

At its core, my brand is about awakening — reminding people that creativity isn’t something outside of them, it’s who they already are.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment that really shaped how I see the world was the day I was terminated from a job I had built a career in for 14 and a half years. At first, it felt like the ground had been pulled from under me. Everything I thought I knew about what it meant to be ‘successful’ — the stability, the titles, the external validation — shattered that day.

But in hindsight, it was a gift. That was the catalyst that forced me into self-discovery, and it became the turning point where I asked myself: What does success really mean to me? What does happiness look like if I create it on my own terms?

That’s when I began to realize that true success doesn’t come from following someone else’s blueprint, it comes from awakening the creator within. It’s about belief, vision, and the courage to design the life you actually desire. That shift in perspective not only changed my path, it became the foundation of my becoming.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
I don’t really carry the perspective of ‘failing hard’ anymore. For me, every challenge is really just asking: what is this teaching me?

One of the biggest lessons came when I launched my internet radio station, WLAG Timeless Radio, in 2020. It was a dream I’d been carrying since 2016, and it grew quickly — my IG following jumped from less than 1,000 to over 70,000 in a year, just from me sharing the music that had inspired me my whole life. I tried to monetize it through merch and livestreams, but then my account was flagged and shadow banned, my visibility plummeted, and I couldn’t convert my following to other platforms. At the time, I felt like I had failed.

But here’s the truth — that period became a portal. While my online visibility dropped, my bookings skyrocketed. I went from a few private and corporate gigs to holding five residencies a month. That shift reminded me of the essence of who i was becoming, someone who doesn’t crumble in limitation, they transmute it into possibility. That experience showed me I could create any reality I wanted, the moment I truly believed it.

Now, that lesson is that even in your hardest moments, you are not broken — you are standing at the doorway of transformation. It’s not about failure. It’s about God, Source, the Universe (whatever term you choose) awakening a belief that you get to choose the perspective.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the DJ and entertainment industry is that you have to abandon yourself to be successful. There’s this pressure to people-please, to chase trends, to follow unspoken rules about what it means to ‘make it.’

But I’ve learned that true success doesn’t come from fitting into someone else’s mold — it comes from believing in your own vision and creating from that place. The moment you start defining success on your own terms, you stop chasing and start attracting.

My journey and sharing my journey is about inspiring others to stop dimming themselves to fit in and instead awaken their own creativity, their own definition of success, and their own power to create the life they desire. When you trust your inner creator, the outside world has no choice but to catch up.

Belief + Authenticity = True Success

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
What I understand deeply — and what I think most people haven’t fully realized yet — is that you are inherently worthy. You don’t have to prove yourself, you don’t have to earn it, and you don’t have to wait until you die to finally receive it.

I grew up with cultural and religious conditioning that told me I had to be 10x smarter, better, or more faithful to succeed — and that blessings would come later, if I proved myself. But what I’ve discovered is the opposite: worthiness isn’t something outside of you, it’s something you already are. God, Source, whatever you call it, lives within you. You are an extension of that creative force.

The world simply mirrors what you believe. If you believe you’re unworthy, you’ll see that reflected back in jobs, relationships, and opportunities. But when you shift your belief to I am worthy now, your entire world shifts with you.

That realization is the foundation of “The Creator Within.” My purpose is to live fully and authentically so I can inspire others to do the same — to stop searching for validation outside of themselves and start creating from the truth that they are already enough.
