An Inspired Chat with Marissa Frederick

Marissa Frederick shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Marissa, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me now in 2025 is so drastically different than I thought it would be. In January of 2024, my husband was involved in a terrible parachute accident at work. He’s in the US ARMY and was doing a routine jump that went sideways. He ended up free falling about 60 feet to the ground. He broke his pelvis in half, broke part of his lower back, & broke his ankle. He is healed as good as one can get after an accident like that but he suffers from nerve pain daily. He can’t run anymore. Can’t do a lot of the things anymore that he once enjoyed. So a normal day for me now consists of going to Dr appointments with him and now he’s going thru the med board process so we have VA appointments and all kinds of stuff to do now.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Marissa Frederick. I am the owner of Marissa Frederick Photography. I’ve been a photographer for almost 13 years now. I love photography so much. I actually took a break from photography for a couple years. I started to get burnt out and just needed a break. I didn’t completely stop though. I just started doing it for myself instead. I moved to Alaska and started wildlife photography. I was so sad that day we had to leave Alaska. I’d go back in a heartbeat!
We recently moved to San Antonio, TX for my husband after he was involved in a bad parachute accident at work. So I’ve decided to start photography back up and I’m so glad I did because man, I missed it.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Honestly, the 2020 election. Not saying which way I swing but just how our world completely changed that year. Seeing how the world split into two sides. Seeing how ugly BOTH sides were to each other. It honestly opened my eyes to what our world is all about and how I see our world, our government, and our people in such a different way now. It’s honestly sad what it’s become. But I’m praying and I’m hopeful for change one day!!

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Not feeling good enough. In my role as a mom, wife, daughter, friend, AND photographer. It’s always been a fear that I’d never measure up. That I’m not doing my best. That I’m failing at all those things. It really has held me back a lot.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My family. 100%. lol. Anyone who knows me, knows that my family is my #1. Before anything! My kids especially. They are my WORLD. The two greatest things to ever happen to me. My husband is my rock. He supports just about anything and everything I want to do in life. Lol. He’s always supported my photography endeavors. Even if he doesn’t want to go out and take pictures with me, he does it anyways because he knows how happy it makes me.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
When I lived in Alaska and would drive around photographing the wildlife. Bears, moose, foxes, lynx, porcupine! It was so relaxing. Just me and my camera. Windows down. Radio on. Talk about PEACEFUL. Those were the days!!!
