We recently had the chance to connect with Mikeya Gover and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Mikeya, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
Since my previous interview with VoyageATL, life has evolved in the most meaningful ways. I’m now a proud mother of five, including a beautiful set of twins. Balancing motherhood with being a full-time college student pursuing a degree in Medical Reimbursement and Coding has taught me the true meaning of discipline and time management.
In the midst of it all, I’ve been steadily elevating my business, Tasteofkllc—developing new, updated menus and refining the brand to better serve my growing customer base. While self-care can be challenging to prioritize, I’ve learned that even small moments matter in maintaining balance and focus.
It’s not easy, but it’s rewarding. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and even more excited for what’s ahead—both professionally and personally.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi VoyageATL readers! I’m Mikeya Gover, the founder of Tasteofkllc, a bold and flavorful food brand based in Macon, GA. Tasteofkllc began in my kitchen, where I started cooking for family and friends, sharing my passion for food and bringing people together one meal at a time. What started as a simple love for cooking quickly grew into a business.
I specialize in fun, crave-worthy foods like Boudin balls, Birria tacos, Authentic international dishes, pastas, soul food, comfort foods, and so much more. My goal is to take familiar favorites and give them a unique, flavorful twist that keeps customers coming back.
Today, Tasteofkllc blends culture, creativity, and comfort—served fresh from my kitchen to your plate. I’m excited to keep growing and sharing this journey, one delicious bite at a time.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that truly shaped how I see the world was becoming a mother of five, including twins. Experiencing the challenges and joys of raising a large family taught me resilience, patience, and the power of unconditional love. It showed me how important community and support are, and that balancing multiple roles—mom, student, entrepreneur—requires creativity and determination. This life chapter deepened my appreciation for every small victory and reminded me that growth often comes through overcoming obstacles. It’s a perspective I carry into my business and personal life, fueling my passion to inspire others that with hard work and heart, anything is possible.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Fear of failure has held me back the most in my life. Whether it was starting my business, going back to school, or juggling the demands of motherhood, the worry of not succeeding sometimes made me hesitate. I was afraid of disappointing myself and others, or not living up to expectations. But over time, I’ve learned that failure isn’t the end—it’s part of growth. Embracing that mindset has helped me push past fear, take risks, and keep moving forward toward my goals.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to building a legacy through Tasteofkllc—creating a thriving, respected food business that not only shares delicious, culturally rich meals but also empowers my community and inspires other women entrepreneurs. No matter how long it takes, I believe in growing this brand with integrity, passion, and excellence. This project is more than just a business; it’s a way to uplift my family, honor my roots, and leave a lasting impact for generations to come.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe I am doing what I was born to do, even though for a long time I wasn’t sure why. This journey—building Tasteofkllc and pursuing my goals—is truly my calling from God. There were many moments when I wanted to give up, but my faith kept me going. Ever since I was a teen, my mom would ask me why I cooked such big meals when it was just me, her, and my little sister. Back then, I didn’t have an answer, but now I understand it was always more than just cooking for us—it was a passion and purpose waiting to grow. This calling drives me every day to keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacles, because I know this is what I’m meant to do.
