An Inspired Chat with Nikki Miller of Atlanta

We recently had the chance to connect with Nikki Miller and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikki , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I believe both actually… Some moments that have made me laugh recently has been when watching old episodes of the TV show “Monk”, especially my favorite episodes. I can watch them over and over again. When I need a good laugh, it’s one of my pick-me-up’s. And let’s see… a recent moment that I feel proud about is making the decision to write the first Spotty™ book and make its first plush toy, which I’ve already started both. This idea came to me after receiving news that Spotty™ was rejected by a faith based production company; a company I thought for sure would’ve been interested.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Sure! Well, I’m Nikki Miller and I am the CEO & Owner of NRM Faith Based Films and The Healing Hearts Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit. I’m also a Licensed Realtor in the state of Georgia. Aside from being an Entrepreneur, I love to sing, act and write. I believe wholeheartedly in being a light to the world by using all these avenues. I am also very active in my church, World Harvest Church of Roswell, GA, volunteering in many areas. I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart going on 32 years and a boy mom with two handsome young adult men who I love dearly.

Now let’s get into the nitty gritty… My companies are not just a business to me; it’s my ministry. With both of my companies, I aim to help heal thousands of hurting hearts globally of those who have been abused physically, mentally and sexually, especially involving youth. And also address important social issues using faith. Why is this initiative important to me? Because I was molested as a child by family members; however, I forgave them, only with God’s help. And afterwards, was commissioned by God to help others heal like I did. My vehicle for doing this is by writing unique stories that are family-oriented, writing and singing inspirational music and rendering Christ-driven mentorship.

While my companies have been in business for a while, I’m still establishing them. The uniqueness about them is that they are bridged together. Youth that are accepted into my nonprofit must have an interest in the film industry due to the fact that we involve them in the film making process under NRM FB Films as part of the mentorship program. However, we’re still in the process of establishing the mentorship program and unable to begin until I film my first movie, which brings me to what I’m currently working on. For all my independent filmmakers out there, you already know how challenging it is to produce a movie with limited or no funds.

Well, I’ve written two screenplays: a feature narrative film (“Change of Heart”), and a feature animation that’s slated to be a franchise which you’ve kind of learned about already called “Spotty™”. I recently filed the trademark for it, something I also feel proud about. Spotty™ is a dog face puffer fish who’s in middle school and struggles with anxiety and the way he looks for which he gets bullied for; however, is learning how to use the Bible to address his bully problem in a non-violent way. I’m working diligently to put this animation into production, but in order to get things rolling, I need $50K to do a “professional” animatic (moving storyboard). I already have an animation studio I’m working with. So, what I’m doing to raise the funds is writing a hybrid picture book for elementary & middle school readers that will be somewhat of an adaption of the animation called “Spotty: Just the Way I Am”. All proceeds from the book and plush toy will go towards the $50K. I’m working diligently to have these done by November. The plan is to sell both on the NRM FB Films website and Amazon. Tax-deductible donations are also accepted which will help me to meet my goal even quicker. Bullying is a common problem that crosses many nations in the world, especially among our youth. And I believe the Spotty™ franchise will bring a bit of sunshine to this social issue. Coming soon for this franchise will be other merchandise, clothing, toys, etc. I would love your support in helping me with meeting my goal to make the animatic and bring this franchise to life!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
In my opinion, what breaks the bonds between people is lack of communication and unforgiveness. I believe we have a hurting world due to these two things. Communication is imperative for any relationship to thrive, and more importantly, what restores bonds between people is plain and simple… forgiveness. An unforgiving heart leads to bitterness and anger which eventually can cause a relationship, whether family, marriage or friends, to fall apart. So, bottom line, it is the key to a happy and healthy heart for everyone.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There were “many” times where I almost gave up; however, my faith just wouldn’t let me. I’ve been working on trying to produce my movies for more than several years now. Again, being an independent filmmaker is challenging, especially when you have little to no funds for this. That’s draining in itself. Then getting a bunch of “Unfortunately’s” or no responses at all, is even more draining. I believe some people in the entertainment industry or really any industry for that matter, forget that someone had to open a door for them to get to where they are now. Because of my strong faith in God, when I get an “Unfortunately” or no response at all, my drive and determination becomes stronger causing me to complete another task that draws me nearer to production of my movies. I’m not a quitter… Galations 6:9 in the Bible says, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” This is what I stand on and keeps me moving forward.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! I don’t do fake. The me you see in private is the me you see in public. I tell it like it is, but I do it with love and respect. I believe people respect you more when you are yourself and honest. I believe character and integrity will take you far in life and in your career.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I did everything possible to be a light to others in this world by making a difference in the lives of those who were hurting and shared the love of Christ to the lost. That I was a person who wasn’t afraid to go after my dreams and never gave up no matter what obstacles got in my way. And lastly, that I made people smile and had a heart of gold.
