An Inspired Chat with Re’Nae Dillard

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Re’Nae Dillard. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Re’Nae, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 mins of my day is going to the gym (including initial hygiene practices) I work out from 5:30am-7am every day. It helps me get started in the morning. The same way people need their coffee, I need my workout.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Re’Nae and I am the owner of Royal Chic Industries and ROYAL Magazine. I am a fashion designer, stylist, and magazine publisher/producer. We focus on changing the world through fashion, specifically placing Black people and people of color in the forefront of fashion with authentic and intentional cultural relevance.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Trust can make or break a bond, and it takes forgiveness and trust to restore a bond.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self that the right people will see what you bring to the table and they will enjoy your offerings. Be yourself and don’t change to fit in. You were born to stand out. Just because the attention looks different for you does not mean it is bad attention, enough attention, or that its not the right attention, because it is.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is a very close version of the real me. I am naturally extroverted and I am a people person. The part of me people don’t see is the rested and closed off version of me. My social battery lasts a long time, so I genuinely only takes breaks or relax when I am completely alone. I naturally very genuine, happy and sociable.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I changed the world with fashion. I want to build a strong foundation of fashion within the Black community without it being a mockery of Black culture. I want people to remember the authentic stories I’ve told about my people, with my people, and how I brought those to life with fashion.
