Terrika Currence shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Terrika , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m proud of me! The version of me that failed, doubted herself, and cried behind closed doors, yet I still showed up. I’m proud of the woman who I’m becoming! I kept going when it would’ve been easier to quit. That part of my journey doesn’t get posted or celebrated, but it’s the foundation for everything I’ve built.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Terrika Currence, founder of Beyond SKN Deep, a clean skincare brand designed for women who are always on the move. Whether you’re hopping on a flight, balancing work and family, or simply carving out a moment for yourself, our products make skincare simple, quick, and effective.
Beyond SKN Deep was inspired by my belief that self-care shouldn’t require perfect conditions or hours in front of a mirror. I wanted products that could meet women where they are products you can use as a quick pick me upper, in an airport lounge between flights, or at home after a long day. Our pre-soaked, resealable cleansing and toner pads were created to do just that.
We’ve been seen in 30+ retail locations, including Embassy Suites by Hilton at Wake Spa and Be Relax Spa in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Concourse B. From luxury hotel spas to one of the busiest airports in the world, Beyond SKN Deep is redefining skincare as something you can take with you anywhere.
For me, this brand is about more than great skin—it’s about making self-care possible in real life, no matter where life takes you.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
For so long, survival mode was my safe place. It taught me how to protect myself, how to push through, and how to keep going when life felt heavy. But I’ve grown to understand that survival mode is not a place to build your future.
I’ve learned that living in purpose requires more than just getting by. It means trusting that I’m no longer in the same storm, that I can release the constant guard, and that joy, peace, and fulfillment are safe for me now. Survival served me, but my purpose will sustain me. And I’m ready for that.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering is a part of healing and it’s where you learn to find solitude within yourself. I believe God will sometimes strip you of everything just to bring you back to Him. It reminds me of the story of Job. Even when Job lost everything, his family, his possessions, his health—he never lost his faith. His success didn’t define him; his faith did. Struggle and suffering have a way of molding you, shaping you into the greater version of who you were always meant to be.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies the beauty industry tells is that more steps equal better skincare. We’ve been conditioned to believe you need a 10-step routine and pricey products to get results, when the truth is, consistency and simplicity can be just as powerful, if not more.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I’m in a season now where the applause is quieter and my circle is smaller, and I’ve realized that’s apart of elevation. Over the last few years, I’ve overcome more than most people will ever know—pain, loss, heartbreak, and moments where giving up felt easier than pressing on.
But I kept going. I fought battles in silence, healed wounds no one could see, and rebuilt myself from the inside out. And somewhere along the way, I stopped needing the claps of outside validation. The real claps now come from within me showing up for myself, me choosing faith over fear, and me embracing every part of my journey with gratitude.
