An Inspired Chat with YSN

YSN shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi YSN, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I’m chasing a life of abundance and comfort built upon the talents God has gifted me. I have always had a very unique voice since a child, and I have been blessed to use it to build a life for myself and my daughter. If I was to stop now, not only would I be letting myself down, I’d be letting her down as well.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I like to identify as a multi-media entrepreneur. I’m a radio personality, DJ, emcee, and host/executive producer of YSN Radio, the coolest podcast in the south. Over the years, I have been able to travel across the country and work with some of the biggest names in entertainment, whether I was doing interviews, DJ’ing, or hosting a show. Within the last year, I have been able to work with the likes of BigXThaPlug, Sexyy Red, ThatMexicanOT, K Carbon, Skilla Baby, Boosie, Rich Homie Quan, and so many more.

My podcast, YSN Radio, has served as a platform that showcases bubbling, up and coming artists and entertainers, along with uniquely entertaining discussions on Hip Hop music and culture, black issues, and current events. With the podcast, I have been able to provide media coverage for large events such as SXSW and NBA All Star Weekend, providing exclusive interviews, vlogs, and behind the scenes content for a diverse audience.

In the future, I hope to grow and expand my brand into a prominent fixture in mainstream urban media. I have recently moved to Atlanta, GA in order to break into a larger market, putting my talents and skills to work like they never have been before.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I have always said that my humility is my biggest weakness. I have always maintained a level of reservedness that prevents me from truly expressing who I am and what I’m capable of, even though I have the utmost confidence in my abilities. I think I have been humble for far too long, and it’s time for me to lean into who I know I am in order to get where I want to be.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
The biggest lessons and blessings of my life have came from times of suffering and turmoil. In the darkest times, when I thought it was all over, I maintained my faith in God and kept pushing through it all. I can go on all day about the different lessons I’ve learned over the years, but the biggest one has been to always keep your faith in God and keep working and things will ultimately work out in the end.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to think that certain things couldn’t happen to me , but life showed me that it certainly could!

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
That’s been the story of my life for years. I feel like people have just now started really paying attention to what I’m doing over the past 2-3 years, but back when I was first starting out and trying to figure out what works, it was very quiet for sure.
