Meet B Hicks | Chef

Hi B, thank you so much for sitting down with us again. For folks who might have missed our initial interview, can you start by briefly introducing yourself?
Hi My name Brandon Jamal hicks Sr a.k.a B
I’m a chef from the West side of Birmingham Al. I enjoy cooking and giving people an experience through food!

If there was one person you could cook a nice meal for and have a conversation with – dead or alive – who would it be?
I have quite a few but to pick one I would say Malcom X.

Who or what made you decide to go into this type of business?
I’ll give credit to my mother, father,& grandmother for introducing me to cooking. Actually, I was raised by business owners. My father owned a restaurant. My grandmother always would ask me to help her in the kitchen. A lot of her recipes I use today.

What have you learned or perfected about your craft during the pandemic?
Flavoring, presentation, and motivation to get my dreams out.

What advice would you have given yourself five years ago about your business?
To stop waiting on an opportunity and to create the opportunity myself!

What are the challenges and the highlights of being a chef?
The highlight is to see the look on people faces when they taste your food for the first time and the experience that they get from it . The challenge is putting it all together and the process of cooking it to make sure that it is cooked to perfection.

How did you come up with the name of your business?
My business is named after someone who is very special to me Kimberly Shena, my sister. She passed away last May. It has always been my plan to name my restaurant after her. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Thank you so much again for sharing all of this with us. Before we go, can you share with our readers how they can connect with you, learn more or show support?
