Today, we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Dixon.
Hi Adrian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hey! So I’m Adrian, aka ArticLaelle! My primary goal is to become an actress or comedian. It’s a dream I’ve always had, as far back as I can remember.
I’ve held on to it despite the naysayers and obstacles I’ve endured along the way, despite life living and everything coming towards me that should’ve taken my dream away but never did.
Although I’m not fully fulfilling my purpose just yet, I wholeheartedly believe that it will happen, and when it does, my testimony will help others! My resilient spirit will show others that sometimes all it takes is for YOU to bet on YOU! The lack of support couldn’t stop me, and the times I’ve been told no couldn’t stop me.
None of the things that might discourage the next have stopped me, and that is how I know my dreams of working with those amazing actresses and actors will eventually come to fruition. My dreams of standing on stage and performing with some of the greats will come to fruition. It’s mine already; I’m waiting for the world to catch on because I have the plan. I just need the platform, lol, and that one person to back me, and well, the rest will be history.
My “start” is simple: I just press record and tell MY story. I press record, and I work as if my content is being viewed by millions. I put my ALL into anything I release because everyday the rent is do for me and it’s me vs me, I will win.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! The road has been quite bumpy, and I’ve been traveling alone for most of my life. I remember sharing my dreams and aspirations with my family for the first time. They looked at me like I was crazy! I believed their doubting me was part of the reason that dream had never truly left me; they’d already come to the conclusion that the child of two addicts couldn’t ever be more than the people I came from, and I beg to differ.
They thought that because of limitations in my life, they considered it difficult for the average person to endure, let alone a child, but it didn’t. I’ve always had such a resilient spirit, and because of that, no matter what has been said, no matter how much time has passed, and no matter what I lacked or who I lacked, my dream is steadily burning within me; nothing has and will ever be able to extinguish it, and I for one can’t wait until the world knows exactly who I am; the world can witness this raw talent I possess; the things that could’ve would’ve taken me out didn’t, and because of that when I win, it’ll be so much sweeter.
I’m the underdog, but one thing for sure and for certain is that once people learn who the underdog is, they have to know more about her, thus propelling the underdog into the spotlight she was born for.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I act! I tell jokes, and I talk! I know most won’t think of talking as anything special because the majority of us can, but when it comes to me, what sets me apart are the stories from my life that I share, like how a little girl with every single oddity against her from birth refused to stay a stereotype and refused to let those limitations limit me.
I’ve always been vocal about my trials and tribulations and the pain I was born into because you just never know that telling your story may help others. It’s such a cliche, but I wholeheartedly believe sometimes the pain isn’t just for you. The pain must be spoken of because it could keep someone else here, especially considering that once upon a time, the pain almost destroyed me, but now it fuels me.
The pain gives me the strength to keep putting one foot in front of the other each day. I’m blessed to wake up again and just go for it. I hope that my testimony will give others like me the strength to just “go for it too.”
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
During our first interaction, people think I’m quiet and withdrawn, but once I peep into the scenery and catch the vibe, it’ll be like we’ve known each other forever. I’m straight out of the South, too, and once you click with a Southerner, we’re family.
