Check Out Angel Thornton-Burns’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Thornton-Burns.

Hi Angel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My business was originally created for health and wellness products. My daughter had eczema and I realized I had to make a lot of skincare products for her that were healthier for her skin. After some time on that journey, I found out I was pregnant with my son. I began researching what a doula was after I had him just because my own personal pregnancy and birth journey with him was one I will never forget. My experience with him made me realize how important it is to have a birth team who supports you and your vision, especially for women of color. With me being a military spouse, I realized so many spouses are alone at times and scared during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I researched many different courses and started out as just a Postpartum Doula. I felt like that was my strongest area. I’ve taking basic lactation courses and herbalist courses as well.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business from the ground up isn’t always easy. There are many times where you question yourself and if you’re doing this business thing correctly. One of my struggles was being patient. I’ve had my business for two years now and I’m so proud of how far I’ve come in just that little amount of time. I wanted to see immediate results but with a business come a lot of growth each year.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a fertility, birth, and postpartum doula. I currently serve Augusta, Athens, Atlanta, Lawrenceville, Snellville, Norcross, Duluth, Dacula, Auburn and Savannah, GA! I also provide placenta encapsulation services, Yoni steams, nipple balm, herbal teas for labor prep and postpartum recovery. I am most proud of my postpartum services and products. I have gotten many reviews and feedback about how helpful my products have been. What I believe sets me a part from others is that I am a military spouse currently in a civilian community. Most of my doula sisters are based here in Atlanta. I have built an amazing sisterhood with so many doulas and I am so grateful for them. The knowledge I have learned from them will help me as my family moves around and I am able to help my fellow military spouses and their families.

Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to either open a birthing center or teaching space where I can serve as many families as possible and help support them with their birthing journey.
