Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Martin.
Hi Christopher, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
There are a quite a few places to start as it regards to my story. I am an actor/host who is also part-owner of the business SILENCE ACTIVATIONS. We are a silent headphone company in Atlanta. We throw silent parties and events with the headphones that have three channels with LED lights and get the signal from a transmitter that fits into a music source. The acting/hosting I have been doing for nearly 30 years. I have been a Sports Anchor, Radio Station DJ, hosted TONS of tv shows, events, weddings, etc. I moved to Atlanta in 2009 and got into the acting more heavily. I have built quite a resume being on network television shows, a major motion picture (LITTLE), feature films, national tv commercials… all that.
As successful as I have been, I also don’t put “all my eggs in the Acting basket.” That is where the old adage multiple streams of income come into play and that leads me to SILENCE ACTIVATIONS. I was introduced to the silent headphone business by my very good friend & business partner Jonathan Colon in 2017. He is an event planner/promotions manager and told me he was about to start working with something he knew I would love. It was a silent party in April 2017 that changed my life. Jonathan and I worked for Sound Off (silent headphone company) for three years. In November of 2019, he, myself and Simon Rimmer joined forces to start our own thing… SILENCE ACTIVATIONS which launched in January of 2020.
As of today, we are thriving as a business… doing 15+ events a week and the acting/hosting is going awesome. Three hosting gigs in the next month!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely it has not been a smooth road. To start a new business in 2020 and three months later be shut down do to a once in a century Pandemic was very challenging. All the money invested in equipment and no events had us looking at each other like, “did we make a mistake” even though our intentions were in the right place. A true testament to alignment was Jonathan and I being fortunate that Simon came on board. He came up with a mail-order curriculum for lack of a better word that put SILENCE ACTIVATION in Google Searches throughout the US. That has lead to tons of business outside of Atlanta. We just continued to do what we could in the wake of last year to build the infrastructure and foundation of SILENCE. We took the obvious obstacles and challenged ourselves to not make excuses and control what we could control. I believe that attitude helped us as a business tremendously.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As an actor… it has been an awesome journey. I was always into the “radio/tv” side of performing from my first classes on the subject in college back in the day at Kansas State University. In 2009, I moved to Atlanta because I wanted to pursue acting more. I had done some acting up until then but had a desire to do more. What I am known for is my nickname #TheFashionPlate. It was given to me because I LOOOVVEEE clothes. Its what people come to expect me to say when I host events. I specialize in capturing people’s attention, resonating with the crowd, “up jumping the boogie” and making sure all involved are entertained out of their minds. I always say “they can’t do what I can do.”
I think what sets me apart from others in I understand that acting/hosting is work. No matter how fun it is… there is a mindset that has to be right underneath that fun that remembers I have a job to do. I am most proud of landing the role of LIL JORDAN’S DAD in the Will Packer Film LITTLE. It was a dream come true to be in major motion picture. I did that.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
This would be a question that I would want tell you instead of type you, because it is a very emotional question for me. I have had my share of ups and downs. I have been in some really tough spots & times in my life. There are a lot of people who deserve credit for the overall success. You wouldn’t believe it if I told you. But at the top of the list are my Mom & Dad. Without their love and their TOUGH LOVE I couldn’t have gotten as far as I did in life. I was that story in the Bible… The Prodigal Son. Had to learn some very hard life lessons before being blessed as richly as I have over the last 15 years.
