Check Out Cynthia Hickerson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Hickerson.

Hi Cynthia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a newly published author. I released my book “Broken-Hearted: 13 Practical Lessons I Learned About Loving God With A Broken Heart” in October 2020. The scripture that inspired this book is Psalm 51:17, “My sacrifice is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you will not despise.” (NIV). In this book, I share realistic ways that I learned how to surrender my heartbreak to God and how He taught me to live a broken-hearted lifestyle for Him. I believe the testimony of how God transformed my heartbreak into living a broken-hearted, surrendered life for Him will help someone on their own journey. I aspire to encourage believers, especially women, to mature in their relationships with God through honest dialogue with Him.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest struggles with releasing this book was lack of confidence and what I like to call “creative perfectionism”. Although I have been writing my entire life when it came to publishing a book, I was intimidated. I felt that no one would really care about what I had to say and wouldn’t support me. I didn’t know where to begin, and I was afraid to ask for help for fear of someone judging me. In addition to feeling inadequate, I struggled with over-thinking my written work. I edited and re-wrote things so many times, and this is the worst thing to do as a writer. The creative process is a roadmap for the end result and it doesn’t have to make sense at first. But I attempted to make this process perfect, and that prolonged the release of the book which I originally had planned for October 2019.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In addition to being a published author, I am also a personal wardrobe stylist… I launched my personal styling business in 2019. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Merchandising, and I have 16 years of fashion retail experience. In 2016, I transitioned to a new career field and missed fashion retail so much that I decided to create my own business. The services that I offer include wardrobe consulting, personal styling, and closet consulting. My services can be booked at my website www.cynthiahickerson.com. I also am a professional singer and actress. I have been in two stage plays and one virtual production since 2019, I will be pursuing voice acting this year, and am excited about this newfound passion.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Having faith in God has gotten me to this point. I struggled with depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem most of my life. These things weighed me down, and although I always believed I would accomplish great things, I didn’t understand why God would want to use someone like me. Once I started to see myself the way He sees me, I gained the confidence needed to pursue the things that He’s called me to do. My goal is to inspire others to walk in their God-given purpose, too.
