Check Out David Balan’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Balan.

Hi David, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am an Art Director and Graphic Designer. I have been designing for 5 years now. Graphic design became my passion after I was working in education and needed a creative outlet to keep up with the demands of working in education.

I have a deep affinity for Afro-futurism, landscapes, architecture and sci-fi and also loved seeing other users of photoshop create amazing images on instagram so I taught myself photoshop after initial months of playing with Photoleap on my phone. I got really good at using adobe products and started developing branding for my friends and my business started to take off from there.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Graphic design is not a smooth road and it hasn’t been. I had to learn a lot on my own in the beginning and I have been learning a lot still. I’m learning how to advocate for myself and my pricing. I’m learning how to work with clients to get exactly what they want but also keep the integrity of the design clean, fresh and stunning.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a graphic designer and art director. I specialize in creating photo-manipulated art and minimalist logo designs for brand packaging. I am most proud of my project to support small black-owned women’s businesses back in 2020. I supported these businesses by providing logos free of charge for a select group of Black women and their new businesses. What sets me apart from others is my blending techniques in photoshop and my desire for clean, elegant looks in my designs.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for anyone starting in photoshop or any adobe product to be a designer is to be patient. There’s a lot to learn and you shouldn’t rush it. I also want to say that learning design tools is a lifelong process so have fun with it!
