Check Out Holly Louis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Louis.

Hi Holly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Holly and I met in high school basically being super nerds. 😉 She was living in Augusta, Georgia, and I was born and raised in Austin, TX. We both competed in speech and debate and eventually did an internship together after graduating high school, where we went to schools around the country teaching other students. We became quick best friends, and stayed connected through college and eventually realized that we never wanted to live life without each other, and the rest is history.

Holly started her photography business in 2008 and it was called Holly Birdsong Photography. A lot of people thought “Birdsong” was a stage name or just something for the business, but it was her real last name! I did photography too, but spending summers in Montana with my family, I did more landscape photography than portraiture. When we got married, I started working alongside her for weddings. We both loved being a part of all these love stories and turned the business into what it is now- Birdsong Louis Photography. Today we photograph 25+ weddings a year both together & individually and document families in every stage of life from newborns to 50 year anniversaries. If it’s a moment you’d like to remember for forever, we’d love to be there!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have gone through so many different chapters in our eight years of marriage, including becoming parents to two little kiddos (Hunter is seven and Georgia Kate is 4)- and also John went to school while running the full business time and got his Masters in Nursing, and is now one year from finishing his Doctor of Nurse Practitioner in Mental Health. So learning how to find harmony with all of our different roles was challenging, but in the end, it has made our business so much stronger, as well as our family!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I think what most sets us apart as wedding and family photographers is that it’s truly about more than “the day” for us. We care so much about your marriage more than your wedding day and your family memories more than just a “session.” We want you to leave your time with us feeling like your family is the best in the world and that your marriage is more beautiful than you can imagine. Pictures have a way of reminding us of things we often don’t see. So capturing those behind-the-scenes moments of your new husband looking at you with the most adoring eyes while you dance with your friends or the way your kids look up at you- those are the moments that make it all worth it.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Whenever we’re working, we’ve always got a podcast going- usually Dave Ramsey or the Heart and Hustle Podcast. But we’re always reading as much as we can about leadership and goal setting!
