Check Out India White’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to India White.

Hi India, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a kid, my self-esteem wasn’t always the highest. I knew that looks weren’t the only thing that determined my beauty, however it was a key factor on how I viewed myself. Quite frankly, I didn’t think that I was pretty. Growing up, I was always surrounded by pretty girls because I danced and was a cheerleader most of my life, which of course being in that environment alone made me feel even more inferior. As I got older, I realized that I no longer wanted to feel that way about myself and that it was up to me to do something in order to spark a change. At home, I would sit in the mirror for hours and hours daily admiring my natural face, recording myself, teaching myself how to do my makeup or curl my hair… anything that I felt was going to have a positive effect on me and my self-confidence. As my esteem gradually increased, I knew without a doubt in mind that if I could use the skills that I’ve acquired to help improve someone else’s confidence, I would do it for the rest of my life. Even though I knew that I had so much more to learn, this was definitely the beginning for me!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wasn’t dealt the best hand in life but regardless of that I knew that I had to play to win. From experiencing homelessness time to time, battling insecurities, and constantly being counted out I could not let those circumstances hinder me from becoming the person that I was not only destined to be but also the woman that God put me here to be. I knew that my fight was bigger than me and still is because I’m not where I want to be and not only am I fighting for my future but also the future of my seeds to come. No one had ever thought that this would be the route that I would take, in fact when I expressed to some of my old high school teachers that I was going directly to cosmetology school after graduating they would ask or state “So you’re not going to real school?“ which was discouraging of course. However, I knew that the decision that I made was and has been the best one that I could have! I was one of the youngest students attending Paul Mitchell Atlanta and ended up being one of few whom actually graduated from my class. Though My experience there wasn’t the best or at least what I expected due to losing loved ones, the trials of COVID-19 along with heedless, resentful “ Learning Leaders “ and lack of motivation, I honestly didn’t think that I could complete the program or even get as far as I did. Yet I knew that my support system at home wouldn’t let me down, up until this day and forever after, I’m thankful for my number one & number two supporters my mother and my Nani (Grandmother) along with many other family and friends for continuously pushing me and being that motivation that I needed to continue on my journey because I know that without them and the man above there wouldn’t be an NFINITY HAIR COMPANY!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
To the public eye, I may be considered a hairstylist or a wig customizer. However, I see myself as an artist that creates looks to intensify the beauty and confidence of my clients by using top-notch products and innovative practices. My mission in performing my craft is to execute a unique look that not only compliments my client but also gives a quality unfamiliar look. Though I love everything I do, my favorite part of my profession is seeing my clients leave smiling from ear to ear. I can say that those moments are honestly what I’m most proud of because those reactions alone fuels me to keep going and thriving at what I do.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the beauty industry, BIG IS BETTER, however I believe that in five years things will get to point where less is more. We are in a time where social media is a virtue and along with its users, it creates and pushes certain trends that can one day be in and the next day it’s out such as the dramatic artificial look that has been in for a few of years now. Though a lot of our beautiful women are still natural these days, as time passes I believe that it will become a more targeted look when it comes to beauty and its trends.
