Check Out Khalilah Morris’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Khalilah Morris.

Khalilah Morris

Khalilah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a four-time Author & Writing Coach. I have self-published A Feen’s Family, Behind the Smoke Journal, Push Through, & This is Why We Say No. My story explains how families are coping with substance abuse. I may not be an expert, but I have second experience with family & drug addiction. That is what I am known for. I spread Smoke in a different way. You may ask, What is the Smoke? For those that don’t know. Smoke is the drama that you are experiencing in your life. I can ask if you are ready for the Smoke. I was home on maternity leave with my daughter. I told my best friend at the time that I had been journaling about some past trauma I experienced as an adolescent. I explained to her how my ex-boyfriend was beaten up by my aunt’s crackhead boyfriend. How that event had haunted me for so many years. From journaling, I created a story around it. I decided to invest in myself. I called my cousin, Lady Ty, ask her for her assistance in publishing my story. She invited me to join her class. By taking her class, I learned how to self-publish, promote & market myself. I went on social media, such as Instagram, and shared some details about the book. Writing and reliving my story has helped me even more than I imagined.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes  & no…it has been a smooth road. As far as being welcomed by the local communities and giving them information on families dealing with drug addiction. And no, because sharing some of my past trauma was very emotional. There were times when I cried for the people I cared about while writing this story.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For the past two years, I’ve donated my books to homeless shelters, prisons, and drug rehabilitation. I’ve been advising former drug dealers on how we could control drug dealing in low-income neighborhoods. I’ve even started my own coaching program on how to write & self-publish. I have definitely enjoyed this journey I’m on & there’s more to come. I’ve been working a movie script for my first book A Feen’s Family. And writing the last book of the A Feen’s Family saga which is Called Smokey Love. So stay tuned for more of that Smoke.

What matters most to you?
What matters to me most is to get the word out that drug addiction is very real & still a problem in our everyday lives. Making a difference in the world by sharing my story can help others heal. Also, teaching the youth that it’s ok to say no to drugs. Please understand that not only does the person on drugs need help, but the family dealing with the situation needs help too…
