Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Svirskaite.
Hi Kristina , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As cliché as it might sound, photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. One of my first big gifts from my dad was a film camera. I do not remember exactly how old I was, but I remember the feeling of it. From that point on, I was always the one taking photos. Family trips, travels, gatherings, work events. If something was happening, I was usually the one behind the camera capturing it. Still, I never thought of photography as something I could build a life around. It was simply something that was always there.
Life took me in other directions. I pursued my education, earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and followed the path that I thought I was supposed to take. But deep down something always felt slightly out of place, like I had not quite found the thing that truly fit.
Everything changed after I had my first child. I still remember the moment when it all suddenly made sense. It was one of those rare goosebump moments when your whole body just knows. I was looking at my baby and photographing those tiny details and early days, and something inside me clicked. It felt like every piece of my life suddenly lined up. I realized this was what I was meant to do. Capturing the beginning of someone’s story and preserving those early moments for families felt deeply meaningful in a way nothing else ever had.
The truth is photography had always been part of my life. I just had not recognized it as my path yet. It took me 38 years to truly see it. But in many ways that time gave me perspective, patience, and appreciation for the moments I now capture for other families. And when I finally realized this was what I was meant to do, it sent chills down my spine.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. The biggest challenge has always been time. When I started building my photography business, I was still working a full time job while raising my first child. Not long after that, I had twins. Life became wonderfully full, but also incredibly busy.
My business actually grew through word of mouth faster than I expected, which I am incredibly grateful for. I always had sessions to photograph and families trusting me with their memories, but I rarely had the time to sit down and focus on the behind the scenes parts of the business. Things like polishing my brand, improving my website, or really stepping back to plan the next steps. I was constantly moving from one thing to the next.
In a way, that pace fits my personality. I like being in motion and I thrive in that creative flow. The funny part is that my ADHD gives me this incredible energy and momentum when I am creating and working with families. The downside is that the quieter tasks that require sitting down and finishing something I have been putting off can be harder to tackle.
Having more kids definitely added more chaos to the mix, but it also brought clarity. When life gets that full, you start learning what truly deserves your time and attention. I am still growing, still refining things, and still learning how to balance creativity, business, and family. But step by step, I am getting there.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an Atlanta newborn photographer specializing in lifestyle newborn photography. My heart has always been drawn to candid moments. The quiet connections, the way a parent looks at their baby, siblings peeking in with curiosity, a tiny hand wrapped around a finger. Those are the moments that tell the real story.
Part of this passion comes from my own experience. I realized at one point that I did not have many photos of my kids and me together. Like many moms, I was always the one behind the camera. Because of that, it became very important to me to create those kinds of images for other families. I want moms to have those memories. The ones where they are present in the frame, holding their baby, soaking in those early days that change so quickly.
When parents start searching for a newborn photographer, they usually feel like they have to choose between two very different styles. Lifestyle sessions, which are candid and often done at home, or studio sessions with posed portraits. Both styles are beautiful, and as a new parent you usually want a little bit of both.
That is really what sets my work apart. With me, families do not have to choose. I bring a small, simple studio setup directly into the client’s home. Most of the session focuses on lifestyle moments with parents, siblings, and even pets, because those connections are the most meaningful part of the story. At the end of the session, I create a few very simple, natural, and timeless studio portraits of the baby that parents can proudly display on their walls.
What I am most proud of is creating an experience that feels relaxed and personal while still giving families a beautiful variety of images. My goal is always to capture both the love and connection of those early days and the classic portraits that families will treasure for years.
How do you define success?
I define success in a very personal way. Of course it means a lot when parents come back to me and thank me for their photographs, when they tell me how much those images mean to them, or when they recommend me to their friends and family. That kind of trust is incredibly meaningful to me.
Success is also when I look at my work and feel proud of what I created for a family. Knowing that I captured something real and beautiful that they will hold onto for years means everything.
But the most important part of success for me is the life this business allows me to build. It gives me the flexibility to be present with my own family and spend time with my kids while doing something that I truly love. Being able to create meaningful work while still being there for the moments that matter at home is, to me, the greatest success.
