Check Out Lisa Liberati’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Liberati.

Hi Lisa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had an interest in photography and a love of great pictures! My older brother had a DSLR camera and introduced it to me and the stunning photos it can capture. In 2017 while living in Richmond, Virginia, I saw a post about a local photographer offering a class on how to use your DSLR camera in manual mode. I signed up, took the class, and loved it. Afterwards, I practiced on my two kids and our neighbors and decided to give this a try!

I offered sessions for a significantly reduced rate and booked a lot quickly. I definitely cringe when I look back on some of those photos but it was the perfect start to my photography journey! I gained experience and, with it, some added confidence in my abilities. I fell in love with capturing these special moments for other families. Soon after I had started, we found out that we would be leaving Richmond, after 12 years, for Atlanta. After about six months, I reached out to anyone I hadt met and started looking for clients. It’s been three years now, and I’ve been honored to photograph so many Georgian families, from 4-day old newborns to a session where the family’s patriarch would be passing soon from cancer and wanted a session to preserve his memory. I love meeting new people, playing peek-a-book from behind the camera with toddlers, singing the Paw Patrol theme song for a smile, letting teenagers take over my camera for a minute and snap a photo of their family, and provide lasting memories that can be looked back on for years to come.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So much of owning your own business is not just providing your service but then the accounting, pricing strategy, website design, social media presence, and permits. There is so much going on behind the scenes that clients don’t see. As I was working on further my photography skills, I was also working on learning about search engine optimization and understanding my accounting software.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a newborn and family photographer located in East Cobb. I specialize in natural light photography and capturing a kid’s true smile! The photos of everyone looking at the camera smiling are wonderful but what gets me excited is capturing the playfulness and love between a child and a parent. Or seeing the pride on a first-time big brother/sister as their hold their new baby.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Flexibility and compassion have been important during Covid. Typically deposits are non-refundable however, I was very aware that someone needed to cancel because of quarantine or something Covid related, giving them a refund was the right thing to do as it was out of their control. Also, I added a third type of newborn session. Typically a client would come to me for a Newborn Studio session but with Covid, people often felt more comfortable having me come to their house but still want the look of a studio session. I now offer a Home Studio Newborn session to help meet their needs.

Pricing:

  • 25 minute family session: $180
  • 1 hour family session: $265
  • Newborn Studio session: $290
  • Newborn Lifestyle session: $275
  • Newborn Home Studio session: $315
