Check Out Livi Murray’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Livi Murray.

Hi Livi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I created my brand, Pretty Vibes Movement, in the summer of 2017. At the time I was struggling with my identity as a creator. I’ve always loved photography, YouTubing, and creating different types of content for different social platforms, but I never felt like my work was good enough to be shown off on the internet. Even if I spent hours producing content, and editing, I would throw it out, because I wanted everything to be perfect, and had this overwhelming fear of being judged. One day, I decided that I wanted to create a t-shirt with the phrase “trust your art”. When I created it, I wasn’t focused on starting a clothing line, I just wanted to create something that resonated with other creators to show that they weren’t alone. I immediately found 50 people to buy a shirt after messaging my whole contact list, and from there the t-shirt started to get more exposure. Three years later I’ve expanded my merchandise list to include more hoodies, crewnecks and T-shirts with a variety of affirmational sayings to motivate creatives to trust their journey and art as creatives.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Since I started my brand in college, my time was split between being an R.A (residential assistant), Tour Guide, Student Government President, and other extracurricular activities. I wanted to be involved with every aspect of campus life all while maintaining good grades and balancing a business on the side. I remember getting sick my sophomore year of college because I wasn’t resting and I was always on go. This was a sign from the universe that I couldn’t handle everything on my own, and in order to produce quality content, I was going to have to give up a couple of things that weren’t important to me. After this revelation, I decided to be pickier with the people, activities, and hobbies I give energy to because for me it was more important to be aligned with my purpose rather than doing everything under the sun.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In May I graduated Elon University with a B.A in Communication Design with minors in Political Science and African and African American studies. I currently work as a Marketing Coordinator for a creative marketing agency based in Nashville called red pepper, but in the new year, I plan to focus on growing my business, and podcast called ‘When I Grow Up with Liv and Lex’. My friends definitely look at me as a social media guru, and someone that’s always in the know on pop culture, astrology, and reality TV. I’m also proud to be the daughter of two lovely parents Marla and Sydney. My Mom and my Dad have poured so much love and care into me, and I have no idea where I’d be if it weren’t for them cheering me along on the way. They have done such an amazing job as parents, and I can’t wait to give them the world. I want to leave a legacy that shows the positive impact that I’ve had on people. That’s why I feel like my brand is so important because it’s spreading the message to creatives to trust their journey and to stop the comparison. Hopefully, by creating affirmational shirts it’s motivating someone to activate their true potential as creatives.

What’s next?
In the new year, I’d love to travel and explore other cultures. I’m the most reflective and inspired when I’m in a new environment. So much growth comes from being uncomfortable and in unfamiliar areas, so that’s definitely on my list to accomplish. In the new year, I also want to stop working full time to pour more energy into growing my business, and other passion projects.
