Check Out Mallory Stephens’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory Stephens.

Hi Mallory, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey into flowers by working at a traditional, brick-and-mortar florist in California. There I learned the ins and outs of flower selection, processing, care, and arranging. After moving to Georgia, I took a leap and opened an event floral business of my own. I never thought I’d end up here, but looking back at my life, this job really does match my personality, interests, and skills. I get to be around nature, bring joy to others, and the challenge of self-employment definitely keeps me on my toes.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s very hard to answer this question without mentioning what everyone has been dealing with for the last year. Never would I have thought it could have so many challenges until Covid hit in 2020. We were just taking off on our third year of business when a cascade of cancellations and postponements hit. I’m currently as busy as ever, but with that comes a lot of stress. The flower market as a whole took a major hit when the world started shutting down last year, and farmers and distributors have struggled to keep up with surging demands in recent months. While we’re primarily an event florist, we’ve had to make some major adjustments to how we do weddings. We’re going off of color palettes versus an exact recipe we’ve created, and having to tell our couples that we simply can’t promise exactly what flowers we will be delivering has been challenging, to say the least. Luckily, we’ve been blessed with incredibly understanding clients and have still come up with some beautiful designs, all while in good health.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love to create thoughtful, whimsical, and naturally arranged flowers for each couple that we work with. My goal is always to customize each order specifically to the bride or groom. Favorite flowers, family mementos to integrate, I want to know it all. Wedding days come and go quickly, but there’s so much to integrate and memorialize. You won’t get a cookie-cutter floral package with us.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
As a child, we went camping, hiking, and climbing all over southern California. I loved going to the mountains and desert to explore the fresh air with my family. It was a unique environment that likely influenced my interest in the natural design.
