Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Gloster.
Hi Patrick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started The R Report basically from blogging off my friend website back in 2009. From there the name begin to grow. I got my own website on blogspot.com to continue to grow my brand. I did a lot of interviews with the 106 & Park Freestyle Fridays Battle Rap Champions such as Yung Nutt, Posted Boi, Sunny NY, and Blind Fury just to name a few. In June of 2012 I got my official domain www.therreportmag.com, and start doing interviews, along with featuring music news in the entertainment world. Along with featuring Miss Unique of the Month for the models, Producer of the Month, DJ of the Month, and the Indie Spotlight. With launching therreportmag.com, I was able to interview celebrity mainstream artists such as Murphy Lee, Bang’em Smurf, Lil Wyte, Blood Raw, Don Mega, Mack Drama, and DJ Kid Capri. At the time DJ Kid Capri was the biggest interview that I’ve done, it grew my Twitter following and got more insights on me. After that the idea came to me about printing. In the Fall of the 2014, I printed the first physical copy of The R Report Magazine. With the print issues I’ve had the opportunity to interview artists and celebrities such as Skooly, Drumma Boy, Cap-1, Sina Bina, Just Brittany, Dakota Unique, Dae Dae, Trouble, LA Da Boomman, Bigga Rankin, YoYo, Cassidy, M.O.P., Rass Kass, Swift McVay from D-12, KXNG CROOKED, Kurupt, Celina Graves, Ralph McDaniels, Ole-E, Kokane, Cold 187um, Reyna Roberts, Kurtis Blow, and more. In 2020 I signed with a publisher that gave me the opportunity to have my publication in Books A Million newsstand. As of today we’re in 141 Books A Million newsstands nationwides.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This road is never smooth, there’s always struggles along the way. Like for instance going against the challenges of people saying that no one buys magazines no more. Especially when I first started printed, you got to know your market, and your target audience, For me that was the difference maker. Also putting together a magazine is not easy work. Especially now being on a production schedule. But with me, everything has to me right, the presentation has to be on point. When putting the magazine together the fonts and photo got to line up on the page correctly, the layout has to look good. Everything has to look great before I turn it in. Because if it sells or not being on the newsstands my name is on it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Being from South Georgia having my own magazine is what I do, it is what I specialize in. Being able to have it on the newsstands is something that I’m most proud of. When I first started it, It was my dream to have the magazine on the newsstands. Being able to see your final work on newsstand is a major accomplishment. Being able to interview the different mainstream artist, along with spotlighting the high school athletes from my city is something that I’m proud of as. Giving them another platform to gain exposure. What set me apart from others is that I’m the only person from my city, the only person in South Georgia that has his publication in book retailer nationwide.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
In this journey a few people have been in my corner along the way, and some are still there. But my biggest supporter have always been my mom. She has always encouraged me even when my back was against the wall and I felt like giving up. Her faith, and her prayers kept me encouraged, and kept me focus on achieving my goals. I’ll also like to thank Samantha Davis has also been there for since the start of the magazine. Vonda Smack, TJ Supa, Steve Gustus, Rina Kreeps, Melvin, and Briana Edmonds has been a big support system for me over the past few, and I definitely them on this journey.
