Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Lancaster.
Hi Peter, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Greetings,
My name is Peter Lancaster, I’m a Senior Creative Services Producer at Atlanta News First. I just won two Southeast Emmy’s last weekend, making my total of 4 since working here in Atlanta.
Back in 2019, with the encouragement from my wife and some friends here in Atlanta, I started my beer account, @ThatsaGreatBeer on Instagram. I love visiting breweries here in Georgia and when we travel, I make plans to visit the most popular breweries in those towns.
I love the vibes and community-feel that breweries create here in Atlanta. My favorite breweries here in Midtown are Scofflaw, Monday Night, Round Trip and SweetWater.
I love sharing my photos and experiences when visiting the incredible breweries across Georgia. There are so many great collections of breweries throughout our city.
At my day job, I work in the Creative Services department at Atlanta News First. I work in the Commercial Production department, we create commercials for local clients. Also, I’m one of the Producer/Editors for the Monica Pearson One on One show.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say my only struggle is find the time to visit all the various breweries. We are fortunate in Atlanta to have so many bad-ass breweries. The challenge for most content creators is the constant push back from some of the platforms, which takes some of the fun out of posting content. But luckily, all the breweries still contact us to help promote their taprooms and special releases.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I was out of town in Orlando and I posted a “Dad Joke” video that went viral three years ago. It was wild to have my phone vibrating on my drive back home. It had over 600k views in two weeks.
Also, my beer video from Suwanee Beer Fest did really too, it went over 230k in two weeks.
Reels for beer content are hit and miss now, due to community guidelines/standards, but it’s still fun to share my videos and photos. My only goal is to help promote the breweries and to highlight beers that I have enjoyed during my visits.
At my day job, I’m proud of the work we do every day. We are usually working on two to three projects at a time. The work that I was most proud of was our Monica Pearson One on One show that just recently won an Emmy. It was our WWE show that showcased our interview with Diamond Dallas Page, Shawn “HBK” Michaels and Oba Femi.
My Creative Services team has worked with the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Dream and the Atlanta Hawks for various projects over the last two years. It’s been so much fun and a lot of work. It’s been a dream to say that I’ve worked with those teams/organizations and Mrs. Pearson for the past four years.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My beer account grew pretty quickly back in 2019 for just a dude taking pictures of his beers and brewery visits. Atlanta is blessed to have some wonderful beer influencers, I wouldn’t call myself a beer influencers but I’m more of a beer enthusiast. The godfather of beer accounts here in Atlanta, is Ale Sharpton. He’s the blueprint for all things beer, culture and food in Atlanta.
Two accounts that have been wonderful contributors and supportive is @TheBeerandPretzelGuy and @AdventuresInAtlanta. Both accounts are ones that I always tell others to follow and support. And of course, my amazing wife.
My day job, I was blessed to get a job in television right after graduating back in 2007. My first job was in Jackson, Tennessee and then I got a job in Birmingham, Alabama at WVTM. My mentor there in Birmingham was Cil Frazier. She was an incredible influence and helped harness my excitement and energy into a focused career path.
I got the job in Atlanta back in 2014, the station at the time was CBS46. Gray Media bought our station in 2021. Since then, they have invested so much into our facility, equipment and more importantly, the staff. I’ve been so blessed to stay at my station for over 11 years. It’s an honor to work with my team, they work so hard and we push each other on every project.
