Check Out Ray Wilson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ray Wilson.

Hi Ray, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started taking music seriously when I began attending college at Mercer University. My love for music fueled my involvement in event promotions and more because I knew I needed money to invest in my career. While in college, I was able to sell a song to Jive Records that would feature Huey and Lil Wayne. I have played a major part in marketing events that involved artist like R.Kelly, Young Jeezy, Charlie Wilson, Future and more.

I also partnered with a friend of mine to operate a venue named Primetime41 in Macon, GA, that was one of the hottest spots in Middle, GA, for about two years straight. We were able to bring in talent like Lil Baby, DaBaby, MO3, Gunna, Jackboy, Derez Deshon and more. I was also blessed with the opportunity to purchase an 18 wheeler with a family member as well. While doing events and making other investments, I have continued to push my music and I’m currently dropping one song every Friday. The theme for this year is “Good Music Always Wins.” I truly believe that good music will always find a way to the top and the variety of songs I’m putting out displays my talent on a different level.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the hardest part when chasing your dreams is finding balance. Your risk have to be calculated when you have kids and responsibilities. Certain business endeavors… especially in the music industry, are gambles so you have to educate yourself and make good investments with your money and your time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I can make any type of song you can think of! I’m mainly know for hip hop music due to the years of work I put in around the Southeast region but my ceiling is a lot higher than just rap. My ability to create a wide variety of music is what I’m most proud of. The thing that sets me apart from everyone else is my ability to learn. During the pandemic, I improved my ability to record myself and also taught myself how to make cover art and motion graphics. I knew that I planned to put out a lot of music in 2021, so I had to be prepared to keep up with the marketing material needed to be successful.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
You’re not doing anything wrong! You can do some things better but you’re not doing anything wrong. We often think we are doing things wrong when you do t have that major breakthrough but I’ve been blessed to be around millionaires and people who have seen success in both the music industry and with event promotion and I honestly do something’s better and they learn things from me like I learn things from them. Experiencing that just confirms my worth and that I’m on the right path.
