Check Out Salih Abdul- Rahman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Salih Abdul- Rahman.

Hi Salih, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Kasoa, in a childhood that was neither completely quiet nor overly chaotic. I was a curious child, always exploring, always trying to understand how things worked. At the time, there was nothing that suggested I would end up in creative or tech work, I studied science, after all. But the support from my mom gave me confidence, and when life became challenging, it reminded me that I could find a way forward.

At 19, I made the decision to leave home and start building my life. It wasn’t only about independence; I wanted to create something of my own while also helping where I could. Money was limited, and the path ahead was uncertain, but those early challenges taught me resilience, discipline, and the value of persistence. I discovered how strong and determined I could be when I set my mind to a goal.

I began my professional journey with a nine-to-five job as a graphic designer. It was a valuable experience that taught me the foundations of professional work, but when it ended unexpectedly, it became a turning point. I stepped into freelancing, exploring new ways to work independently. It was not easy at first, there were slow periods, moments of doubt, and the constant challenge of proving yourself without a traditional structure. Eventually, I returned briefly to another full-time role, but it became clear that my growth would come from creating my own path, not following someone else’s schedule.

Through freelancing, I worked with international clients and organizations, including Baldwin Institute as a creative lead. Those experiences taught me critical lessons about teamwork, clarity, and execution. Every project, every collaboration, and even every setback shaped the professional I am today. I learned how to plan, how to communicate effectively, and how to translate ideas into results, skills that go beyond design or animation.

Recently, I began applying those lessons to software creation. One of the projects I’m focused on now is Stikkly, a tool aimed at helping creative teams execute ideas with clarity. While it’s still in development, it reflects the way I think about work: structure, clarity, and effectiveness. It’s less about the product itself and more about the principles behind it, ensuring that ideas move seamlessly from concept to execution.

Looking at my journey, I see a trajectory shaped by curiosity, resilience, and a commitment to growth. I am not where I want to be yet, but each step has brought me closer to the kind of professional I aim to be thoughtful, capable, and innovative. I approach each new challenge as an opportunity to learn, improve, and contribute, and I remain committed to building, creating, and moving forward with intention.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve faced many challenges along the way, and some days felt like the world was about to end. Stress came from all directions, navigating work, dealing with bosses, employment uncertainty, and financial pressure. There were times when I didn’t know where my next solution would come from, how the day would end, or what the next day might bring.

Personally, I’ve also carried the weight of trying to figure things out on my own. There’s a responsibility that comes with being independent, and for many young people like me, there’s the added pressure of supporting family and handling responsibilities at home.

Technical setbacks added to the pressure too, like the time my PC crashed with a lot of critical work pending. It was devastating in the moment, but it forced me to problem-solve, adapt quickly, and keep going.

Every moment of stress, uncertainty, and challenge became a lesson, not a reason to give up, but a reminder to stay resilient, think creatively, and keep moving forward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a digital artist and graphic designer, originally starting as a Photoshop enthusiast and gradually moving into creating real products. My expertise includes graphic design, digital art, UI design, and branding, covering projects such as UI designs for digital products, posters, visual identity work, and cover arts.

I’ve worked both independently as a freelancer and in collaborative team settings, gaining experience in leading projects, managing creative workflows, and delivering high-quality outputs. I’m active on platforms like ArtStation, Instagram, and Pinterest, sharing work and connecting with the creative community.

Recently, I’ve been exploring product creation and AI-driven design workflows including animating Figma designs using plugins like Hera. My current focus is building Stikkly, a visual workspace that ensures creative ideas remain clear as tasks move through a team, so work is done correctly the first time. I’m proud of turning ideas into results that make an impact. What sets me apart is my ability to combine creativity, technical skill, and problem-solving, ensuring every project carries the original vision through to completion.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that resilience is everything. Challenges, setbacks, and uncertainty will always come, but how you respond defines your growth. Falling or failing isn’t the end, it’s the opportunity to adapt, learn, and come back stronger.
