Today we’d like to introduce you to Shequavia Johnson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my journey by taking a leap of faith relocating to Georgia as a mother of four to pursue acting, starting without industry connections or a traditional pathway in. That experience required resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to build from the ground up.
As I developed in my craft, I recognized the importance of not just waiting for opportunities, but creating them. That shift led me into filmmaking, where I’ve taken on roles both in front of and behind the camera. I’m currently developing original projects, including my short film I Follow You and a mini-series titled My Girls.
At this stage, my focus is on expansion and ownership. I’m preparing to launch my own film and self tape studio, with the goal of providing creative resources and professional opportunities for actors and filmmakers. My journey reflects both persistence and vision, and I’m intentional about building a sustainable presence in the industry.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Relocating to Georgia as a single mother of four without resources or a support system came with a lot of uncertainty. There were moments of financial pressure, rejection, and trying to balance motherhood while still pursuing something that wasn’t guaranteed.
On top of that, navigating the industry without connections can feel isolating at times. I’ve had to learn everything on my own, how to position myself, how to create opportunities, and how to keep going even when things weren’t moving as quickly as I wanted.
But those challenges built resilience in me. They forced me to grow, to think differently, and to take control of my path by stepping into filmmaking and creating my own projects.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an actress and emerging filmmaker, and I specialize in telling raw, emotionally grounded stories that reflect real life. I’m especially drawn to roles and projects that explore resilience, relationships, and personal growth. Beyond acting, I’ve stepped into directing and producing, creating my own projects so I’m not limited by traditional opportunities.
Right now, I’m developing original work including my short film I Follow You and a mini series titled My Girls. I’m also preparing to launch my own film and self tape studio, focused on providing resources like self tapes, headshots, and creative production support for actors and filmmakers.
What I’m most proud of is building all of this from the ground up while raising four children and starting without industry connections. That journey shaped my work ethic and my perspective.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just pursue opportunities, I create them. I’m intentional about ownership, storytelling, and long term impact, and I bring real life experience into everything I do. That authenticity shows up in both my performances and the projects I create.
What’s next?
My plans for the future are centered on growth, ownership, and expansion. I’m continuing to develop my own film projects, including I Follow You and My Girls, while building my presence as both an actress and filmmaker.
My next major step is stepping into more principal and leading roles, walking red carpets, and having my films featured in film festivals. I’m also preparing to launch my own film and self tape studio, creating a space where actors and filmmakers can access the resources they need to grow and produce quality work.
I’m looking forward to collaborating, helping others along the way, and using storytelling as a way to truly impact my audience. Everything I’m building is rooted in purpose, and I’m intentional about creating work that connects, inspires, and leaves a lasting impression.
