Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Morgan.
Hi Tamara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in Atlanta. I grew up in the entertainment industry in Atlanta my whole life. I would be on set all the time. I’d stay for breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner. In that time, I noticed the chefs and the caterers would through away huge pans of food that was leftover from meals. It never sat right with me at all. Especially when there were homeless people not even five miles down the road who had nothing to eat, drink or even lay their heads down at night. Then I started to think about the women here on the streets of ATL and remember that “Hey! they have menstrual cycles just like me.” So I decided to start my own non-profit organization called “Women4Change”. It’s basically me supplying homeless women here in Atlanta with feminine products such as pads, tampons and other necessities.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has most definitely not been easy. I’ve had people try to discourage me along the way, people taking my copy-written ideas… all of it. Looking through all of that, it’s so worth it because I know I’m changing someone’s life in the process.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I hold many titles to my name. I’m an Actress, first and foremost, an Activist, Author, Executive Producer, Podcast Host & CEO. I’m proud of my accomplishments in every field. Being in huge movies & tv shows, to writing and currently producing my own movie, to writing a book, and starting a podcast called “Protect the Piece”. The cool thing that sets me apart from the people I surround myself with is the fact I’m only seventeen. I’ve been growing myself and my brand since I was five and worked even harder when I was able to do it myself.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Always remain humble and never think you’re better than anybody. My dad always told me that once you think you’re better than anybody is when somebody could move right past you and be better. So I always try to challenge myself in little ways. Being humble is what gets you to where you are. Which also ties into your thinking that you’re better than anybody. A personal lesson I learned is age means nothing. I know people younger than me who are doing some of the things I’m doing and more, which is beyond inspiring.
