Check Out Tiffany Cohen & Jorge Gutierrez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Cohen & Jorge Gutierrez.

Hi Tiffany Cohen & Jorge Gutierrez , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We are a husband-and-wife team, and FLOR DE LA JARA is the bridge between our two worlds.

Jorge grew up in the olive groves of Spain, where his family has produced olive oil for three generations. From an early age, he learned that great extra virgin olive oil begins in the grove with careful farming, timing, and respect for the harvest.

Tiffany’s background in wellness and her Jamaican roots shaped a belief that food should be real, nourishing, and deeply connected to culture.

We met in 2017, and what started as a shared appreciation for food turned into a shared mission: to bring sustainable, single-origin, mono-varietal extra virgin olive oils from our family groves in Spain to food lovers in the U.S., without compromising their integrity, authenticity, or soul.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped who we are as founders and as a family.

When we started FLOR DE LA JARA, we shared a dream of bringing Jorge’s family olive oil from Spain to tables and kitchens across the United States. We quickly realized that building a food brand involves much more than producing a great product. We had to learn about importing, logistics, distribution, marketing, and sales while balancing our careers and raising our family.

One of our biggest challenges has been earning people’s trust and helping them understand what authentic, high-quality extra virgin olive oil really is. We’ve spent countless hours at markets, tastings, and food shows, meeting customers face-to-face and sharing not only our olive oil but also the story behind it.

Like any small family business, we’ve experienced setbacks, moments of doubt, and long days where progress felt slow. But those moments have only strengthened our commitment to our mission.

The most rewarding part is seeing people’s reactions when they taste our olive oil for the first time and hearing that they can feel the passion and heritage behind every bottle. Those moments remind us that all the hard work is worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are the co-founders of FLOR DE LA JARA, a family-owned extra virgin olive oil brand that connects three generations of olive-growing tradition in Spain with consumers in the United States.

Our backgrounds complement each other in a unique way. Jorge grew up surrounded by olive groves in Montes de Toledo, where his family has been producing olive oil for generations. He oversees sourcing, production, and product development, ensuring every bottle reflects the quality and authenticity of our family’s heritage. Tiffany, a physician, brings a strong health and wellness perspective to the brand, along with a deep commitment to educating consumers about the health benefits and culinary value of authentic extra virgin olive oil.

What sets us apart is that we don’t simply sell olive oil, we share the complete story behind it. We are personally involved in every step of the process, from caring for the groves and hand-harvesting to importing, marketing, and meeting customers at tastings and food shows. That direct connection allows us to offer complete transparency and maintain the highest standards of quality.

What we are most proud of is building a business that reflects our values: sustainability, family, craftsmanship, and integrity. Every bottle of FLOR DE LA JARA represents not only exceptional extra virgin olive oil but also the passion, tradition, and trust that have been passed down through generations. Our goal has always been to help people experience olive oil the way it was meant to be fresh, honest, and unforgettable.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For us, success is about much more than business growth or sales. Success means preserving our family’s legacy and traditions, producing an exceptional extra virgin olive oil without compromising on quality, and earning the trust of every customer who chooses our brand. It means introducing more people to authentic olive oil and helping them appreciate the difference that freshness, transparency, and careful craftsmanship make.

On a personal level, success is building something together as a family that we can be proud of, something that reflects who we are and creates lasting value for future generations. If we can grow FLOR DE LA JARA while remaining authentic and inspiring people through our story and our product, we consider that a true success.
