Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Graniero.
Hi Vanessa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began pursuing an artist career in the music industry at a very young age and have had some amazing experiences along the way. I’ve sung as a session vocalist, released an independent album at 17, performed as a solo artist, worship leader, and a former member of the Atlanta psychedelic funk band Voodoo Visionary. Additionally, I was in the final four of The Voice on Snapchat, representing Team Blake Shelton.
Today, I’m proud to be a part of the vocal coaching team at the renowned Jan Smith Studios (www.jansmith.com) and Mama’s Music House in Atlanta, GA. The studio is run by Mama Jan, a celebrity vocal coach and producer most known for working with artists such as Justin Bieber, Usher, The Band Perry, Rob Thomas, Queen Naija, and many more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The music business has a plethora of challenges and inevitable setbacks. It’s a tough space, I can certainly attest to that, but more importantly, I want people to know it is possible to succeed in music.
Many of my personal experiences in this industry have felt more like failures than wins, but it was all building towards something greater, something bigger than myself. The challenges and disappointments have taught me important lessons in persistence and resilience. All of which have made me a better artist and most importantly, a better coach and mentor.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a vocal coach, it’s my mission to foster and empower my students to share their unique voices with the world. I work with local and international students of all levels and contemporary styles to fuel their creativity and build vocal athleticism. Making sure it’s a unique experience that focuses on the individual, I guide them to implement healthy techniques, improve vocal hygiene, and build the foundation that leads to vocal and creative freedom.
My artist heart is at the core of everything I do in music and coaching. I’m honestly thrilled that I get to share this with aspiring artists to help to build them up and connect through song.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My awesome parents and three older brothers have each been uniquely inspiring and supportive since day one. I feel blessed to have come from a creative and musical family that encouraged me to freely explore my interest in voice and music from an early age.
My mentor and boss, Mama Jan Smith, has been a long-time supporter and the catalyst behind why I developed into a vocal coach. I’m so grateful to be a part of her team at Jan Smith Studios and Mama’s Music House. The wealth of knowledge that Mama Jan has poured into my life since we first met in 2009 is immeasurable. I have so much respect for her realness and heart. She tells it like it is; something the music industry could use more of.
Another tremendous mentor is Heidi Huelskoetter, master vocal coach at Jan Smith Studios. Heidi played an important role in my training and transition into coaching. I’m so thankful for her guidance and encouragement. She has worked alongside Mama Jan for 3 decades and is such a kind, nurturing, and powerful mentor to so many.
