Today we’d like to introduce you to Chasidy K. Ashley.
Hi Chasidy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, it all started for me 12 years ago. I needed to find employment because my boys were getting older and it was time for me to go back into the workforce after being a stay-at-home mom. I attended massage school to become a massage practitioner and begin to quickly realize that I was going to specialize in an area that separated me from everyone else. After I completed the course, I received my certification for prenatal and postpartum massage, and then infant and pediatrics. I knew that working for someone else, I would never be able to offer all of my services to women, based on the needs of business. Well, that’s when I decided I was never going to work for anyone else ever again. I wanted to be free to practice and without restrictions.
The avenue I was traveling to be different was not yet complete. That’s when I became certified as a Fertility Massage Practitioner. I was able to offer women different modalities of massage to help with their wellness regimen. It was a long road trying to become an entrepreneur. Banks would not lend me money, although at the time I had a great credit score and some money. They didn’t want to take a chance on someone who was not established without a bankroll and a portfolio. Although that is not realistic, especially today and after a pandemic that threw everyone for a loop. I had to learn to buckle down, make huge sacrifices, and even forgo not traveling all to open a wellness spa.
Now that I have a full service spa, it’s even better because I can help not only women but anyone who is looking for a wellness routine so that they can be at better service to themselves while getting self-care. I offer not only massage but personal training, pedicures, body treatments and far infrared sauna services. When I think about being here, and all of the struggles it took to be here, I would do it all over again. It changes you as a person to help you to build better character and to help keep you humble. Hard work and dedication is a very humbling experience.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been smooth, family, friends and people who don’t believe in what you want and don’t share your passion or vision are always on the side questioning or evaluating your every move. I think about how many times I went into the banks and filled out applications for loans, knowing I had been a customer for years with a decent credit score in the 700’s- then to be told no. It was hard to keep hearing. But you get used to it and you find other ways to keep pushing to keep your dream afloat. But one thing I can say is that throughout the whole ordeal I had the support of my best friend and to this day has never not been there for me. We began to laugh at the rejection and began to channel it as strength. I don’t say this as a deterrent for anyone, but just expect rejection and sacrifices.

I am the owner and I handle the day to day operations. I will even put my scrubs on to massage if I have to. I specialize in massages for women. Fertility, prenatal, postpartum and menopause. We offer exclusive suites in our spa that can be enjoyed by a party of 1 or up to 10. After your training, you can lounge in our far infrared sauna and help detox those sore muscles (while listening to the radio or watching Netflix). Then you have the option of getting a full body scrub and a massage, facial or pedicure. When this place was designed- it was designed with you in mind!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Be patient and stay focused. It is not easy to become a business owner, but it is very rewarding once all of the hard work is put in. Take pictures of your progress and write down every time you are rejected or turned down when it pertains to you and your business. It will help you to stay focused. When the product is finished… Do not celebrate until you are comfortable with where you are in business. This can come in many different forms -Just know what your final product looks like and then celebrate.
