Community Highlights: Meet Dorian Copeland of Kouture Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorian Copeland

Hi Dorian, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started doing hair when I was 19 years old , so almost 7 years ago. I was just a young college student doing hair in my dorm for extra money ,all while working 2 jobs. Unfortunately shortly after I had to take a semester off of school and while I was out of school I had to figure out something else to do rather than work my minimum wage jobs. I decided to take my craft seriously and I haven’t looked back since. I was blessed enough to be able to do an apprenticeship under another amazing cosmetologist and she taught me everything I know.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most of my hair career has been smooth. I have the best clients ever. The only struggles I would say that I’ve had is figuring out how to legalize everything in the hair world. As well as being the first entrepreneur in my family so a lot of things I had to learn on my own all while being so young.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Kouture Salon ?
Kouture Salon is a growing business. We provide top tier service as well as a comfortable environment. We specialize in natural hair care & installs. We have a make up artist inside as well. We also have a raw hair bundle line providing Cambodian hair. My proudest moment for my brand would have to be opening my own salon and giving my clients that experience of being truly cared for. I would like the readers to know that my salon is always open to new clients to join our family.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
It’s funny because as a kid I always wanted to be a hairstylist or a nurse & I decided to pursue both of the career choices! I think my outgoing personality also helped me go far in my business because I am very personable. I’ve always been loved by everyone I’ve met even as a child. I’ve done a lot of sports and clubs so I’ve made a lot of friends over the years.
