Community Highlights: Meet Eden Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eden Jackson.

Hi Eden, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In law school, when asked, if I wanted to own my own law firm, I would scream “NEVER”! This was further solidified when I started my first paralegal job working with a solo practitioner. She was an amazing attorney but the stress of dealing with clients along with the actual day-to-day of running your own firm was a lot. She had no work-life balance.

However, everything changed when I found out I was pregnant with my first child. I was working at a large firm in Atlanta and I wanted to make more money while also allowing my child to stay at home with me for a year. So at that moment, I decided to start my own firm. It’s been hard, but luckily my spouse and I both work from home, so it’s been easier to work a while providing my son with quality time and care.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nooo! It’s hard to run a business but running a business while raising a busy infant is really hard. Some days, I think about giving up or putting him in daycare. However, planning my days out ahead of time has been a blessing. I have always been a planner and my spouse makes fun of me for having and maintaining multiple physical and electronic calendars. Without my daily calendars and joint calendar with my spouse, I could not do it!

My second challenge has been keeping my social media updated and engaging. To be honest, I love social media but I hate making videos! I will make a meme or posts all day, but actually sitting down to make videos has been a challenge. I’m getting better and have even set up a studio in my office!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The Law Office of Eden A. Jackson is a boutique law firm in trademark and business law. We work with small business owners and independent artists all over the United States. When The Law Office of Eden A. Jackson first started, we were trying to appeal to mostly small business owners; however, independent artists are where we really started to see a need for our services. We have clients that have had paying shows and gigs all around the world and never thought to trademark their brand! Some never even thought to file the paperwork for a business formation. We really try to show these artists that their brand is a business and they should treat it as such. This is why the slogan of the Law Office of Eden A. Jackson is “Your Good Friend in Trademark and Business Law” when we say this, we mean that like a good friend we will tell you about issues when you need to know and give you encouragement when you’re feeling down. We are not here to churn business; we are here to grow your business and brands and keep you encouraged and prosperous for years to come.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
When I am not practicing law, I am an avid skater and traveler (yes, we take the baby too!) I also am starting to love cooking more. In the past, I have always hated cooking. But with Pinterest, cooking has started to become a fun pastime, which has given me a real respect for those who love to cook!
