Today we’d like to introduce you to La’Queta Savage.
Hi La’Queta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a mother of five boys, life has been anything but stagnant, my story is simply about using my gifts to help others, as I have always had a soft spot in my heart for pouring into my community. My background is vast and includes experience in property preservation, logistics, marketing and business planning. Throughout my professional career, I’ve served in a number of roles with major corporations, nonprofit organizations, and governmental entities. While I was an employee, though, I noticed that maintaining business operations was a challenge for some establishments. Additionally, I’ve watched businesses fail because they were not set up correctly and unable to compete in their industry due to no marketing. Even though, I was gainfully employed, in my heart, I wanted to help other businesses develop by managing their marketing, but I never had the time. The time soon came for me to pursue my calling.
So, after spending years in the corporate world, in March 2019, I followed my dreams and launched Shaxor, LLC, an independent marketing and networking agency, to do what I love — watching businesses grow. I dedicate my life’s work and my business to helping small businesses blossom. My team and I live and breathe by our slogan, “Innovate, illuminate, connect” which is essentially the three pillars of greatness for small businesses. We strive to implement these pillars for our clients and entrepreneurs in the Shaxor network. As a result, the Shaxor brand, along with the network, is getting stronger by the day! Today, because of my passion for seeing businesses get access to capital, thrive, and become well known through consistent visibility, I am an ambassador for the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce. I’m also a proud member of the National Small Business Association’s Leadership Council, where I can further my efforts to ensure the success of the small business community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting my business has not been a smooth road at all. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it, right? At the same time, I didn’t walk into my business thinking it would be easy. I knew what I was up against, especially being a Pensacola, Florida native in the new and unfamiliar territory of Montgomery, Alabama. During the start-up phase of my business, I struggled with: Finding the best location. Location is everything in business. To attract my business’ audience and make it easy for people to want to work with us, I had to find the right location. We’re currently located downtown in the heart of Montgomery, Alabama. Team building. Since I’m not from the area, initially, I didn’t know who to turn to for help with certain tasks. But after stepping out on faith and my ability to use the resources around me and quickly connect with others, I’ve found the perfect team so far. My team is the heart and soul of the Shaxor brand and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. Obtaining licenses. For certain professional services, my business has to be qualified. And by that, I mean certified. I had to get professional licenses to make my business legit and functional.
Those licenses require a lot of paperwork and are very expensive. To stand out from other marketing firms, we are now a state and federal economically disadvantaged woman-owned business, HubZone certified, and we are a part of the supplier diversity in the Florida marketplace. I will always face the fact that the marketing industry is a male dominated field. Navigating a space where you’re one of the few is tough on its own. This allows me to relate to my clients who continuously experience the emotional effect of starting a business — the feeling of not be supported On a daily, I am there for my clients, to keep them motivated in what I call the desert. Yes, it’s easy for an entrepreneur to love their business when everything is going right and the money is flowing. But when things get rocky, entrepreneurs begin to question themselves, their business, and their faith! Like I said earlier, entrepreneurship is sometimes lonely. Many entrepreneurs don’t feel like they get the support they deserve.
Of course, there will be times when you won’t have everyone cheering you on. Everyone won’t click like on your social media posts. And it’s not solely because they aren’t there. Folks are just out living their lives. At Shaxor, LLC, we always push our clients forward and encourage them to keep their eyes on the prize when times get rough. Running a business takes focus. If you can put yourself in a zone, tune everything out, and focus on your goal when adversaries come your way, you can make it. I’m always telling my clients, “You have to trust the process.” Just like marketing, a billion dollar business doesn’t happen overnight. And, as I always say, marketing is a must have that most beginning entrepreneurs don’t know they need.

I get excited because I know the hard work, the sleepless nights, and the blood, sweat, and tears it took to produce those results. Something surprising What is something surprising that most people who know you or your work/brand might not know about you? I’m a loving mother to five boys, and I have two beautiful grandchildren. Being a southern girl, born and raised in Florida, I learned how to drive a boat before I even learned to drive a car! Surprisingly, most people think I live a flamboyant lifestyle, but I’m really a homebody who loves to garden and fishing. Besides that, I’m internally driven and like to accomplish my goals by using a goal list. I actually have two checklists sitting on my desk right now. Did I mention that I love to be at home? It’s funny because people always call me up and say, hey, weren’t you just at this place or that place? I say, no, you’re just seeing the brand everywhere. While they may see something about me on the internet, I’m really at home. That’s the power and beauty of marketing at its finest!
