Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz and Naki.
Hi Liz and Naki, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We met in 2003 as cheerleaders at the University of West Georgia. We ended up being best friends, co-workers, roommates, and now business partners. At Liz’s wedding, we cooked for 150 people and organized and coordinated every piece of the production, at that point, they felt like we could successfully pull off anything.
We had both watched the Chelsea Does… Drugs 420 Dinner special on Netflix and it inspired us to start Hi-Five Supper Club as a full dining experience. We then realized we could incorporate that vibe into larger events that still include food and drinks, for example, our past holistic events where we’ve had sound baths, yoga, and meditation.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our parent company, Frankie & Marley Productions, has been on hold for the last year due to COVID. We were both invested in making the event production company or number one priority but when the pandemic hit it put everything on pause. We didn’t know if we’d ever be able to produce events again. Luckily, with the vaccine and mask mandates, we’ve been able to start to build what new normal looks like in the event production world. Humans are adaptable creatures.
As you know, we’re big fans of Frankie & Marley Productions. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Frankie & Marley Productions is an inclusive, woman and minority-owned business creating elevated cannabis experiences. Cannabis is and always has been an alternative way to enjoy life, and we aim to responsibly weave our love of cannabis into your upcoming events. We are a cannabis event planning company working to destigmatize cannabis in the South, specifically in Georgia, where we are based. We respect the healing aspects of cannabis and work with a diverse group of partners – including mixologists, chefs, performers, and healers – to craft innovative experiences enhanced with cannabis.
From our no-bullshit attitude to our brilliant backgrounds in marketing, Frankie & Marley is not your average event planning company. We are passionate, creative and ready to push boundaries. We break the rules and then make our own rules. We aim to bring any vision to life, and we want our clients to express themselves freely so we can all work together with ease to create an unforgettable event, no matter the occasion.
Frankie & Marley operate as cannabis event creators in Atlanta, Georgia (the black Mecca of the South). It is our responsibility as women of privilege to speak out against the disparities within the cannabis industry and the violence enacted against communities of color. We strive to bridge the gap between the wealth that is benefited from the cannabis industry and help find ways to positively impact black and brown communities who have been negatively affected by the war on drugs. We aim to showcase people, places, and alternative lifestyles. We share a non-bias, inclusive view of the world with a purple haze filter. As cannabis event creators, we have a passion for bringing people together and helping communities thrive by offering alternative ways to celebrate, decompress and heal.
Co-creators of Frankie & Marley Productions, Naki and Liz have known each other since 2003 and have been roommates, co-workers and best friends. They share a passion for social justice, community, healing, togetherness, and, of course, creating lasting memories for their clients.
In light of the current COVID climate, we are offering our services exclusively to small and private gatherings. We are a cannabis event planning company that offers consultation and event production services to help professional planners choose the best cannabis offerings for any type of event.
What does success mean to you?
We define success when you are completely fulfilled by what we’re doing to make a living, and it doesn’t feel like a job. When we hear people say that they loved their meal, the event they attended or the experience we created for them and it makes us proud and knows that we’ve put a little bit of light into their lives. Also, knowing we’ve impacted even just one person in a positive way is a sign of success.
We fully stand by the mentality that if you feel good about what you’re doing and you’re happy doing it, the money will come, and you’ll feel abundant.
