Today we’d like to introduce you to Lloyd Fisher.
Hi Lloyd, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I didn’t start out in landscaping. My background is in marketing, and for years I worked with large brands on the agency and brand side. I also loved working with service businesses, helping them think clearly about systems, customer experience, and long-term growth. When my wife and I became homeowners after moving from New York, I dove straight into creating an enjoyable outdoor space for my family, so that is where it grew from.
After a few years of assisting service businesses part time and also doing some projects for friends and family, I realized that I could turn this passion project something more long term. I also started to realize how disruptive gas blowers and mowing equipment were to the environment, from a noise and air pollution perspective and something wasn’t adding up. I just couldn’t understand how we accepted that making an outdoor space presentable relied on destroying it in the process. So I decided to look into how I could solve for that.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
By no means starting any business is just a smooth road. There are plenty of lessons to be learned along the way. When starting out, especially in a new field, you start doing the work and learn by experience. only with that experience can you start to build systems that make everything more efficient and an overall better experience for the next customer.
I started out doing a lot of work in the field, which was necessary to help me understand the true cost of each thing – from maintaining a yard to planting certain shrubs and even hardscaping elements such as pathways and retaining walls. Since then I have found and grown with an amazing team that specializes in the installation portion and I focus on marketing, selling and the customer experience elements. Overall, my pricing has improved and overall perception on how long certain tasks would take have been big factors in our recent growth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We design, build, and maintain outdoor spaces with an emphasis on sustainability, durability, and clarity. We specialize in landscape design, planting, seasonal maintenance, drainage solutions, and outdoor improvements that look better over time rather than peak once a season and decline. We are known in the community for native plantings as well that help build the local ecosystem.
What sets us apart is how focused we are on the environment and the quality of our work. We are all-electric and solar powered, we design with long-term maintenance in mind, and we spend time educating clients so they understand what they are investing in. Brand-wise, I am most proud of the trust we have built in the community. Many clients stay with us for years, and referrals come from people who value how we approach landscaping, not just how fast we work.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up in South Africa and my family has always made an effort to create an awesome backyard space (my parents still do) – and I remember going on adventures with my siblings around the garden from the moment we got back from school until the sun went down.
